Mirrored Realities

"Uhg. This is so boring."

Atlas muttered, sitting in their room, close zoning out, while staring at the T.V. as an ad was playing.

"Ba ba da ba ba Baa."

It was a McDavids ad.

"Why can't anything interesting just happen around here?" they questioned to themself.

Thump.

As they flopped onto their bed, they were sadly inconvenienced because when they flopped onto their bed, their charger was unplugged. They reached out for it, but decided against it, because they were just that lazy.

"This sucks."

They looked out the window, noticing the fact that it was misty outside, even though it was around 5:00 P.M. It may have just been misty that day.

Just as they sat on their bed, they got the unsettling feeling that something was wrong, but they decided to ignore it, even though they know they shouldn't ignore something like this.

A few hours go by, with them just playing Castle Crashers; Remastered on their switch. Their favorite of the characters to play was the Pink Knight, even though the stats were rather... bad. It focused on stamina, but they do not care. They managed to get the Pink Knight up to level 34 before stopping to take a break.

They put the game system down, and began their 'trek' down the stairs, slowly descending them.

Once they reached the bottom, they started towards the refrigerator, opening it and grabbing some pepperoni, and went ahead, shoving it in their face.

Thud.

"Huh? Dude is that you?" they asked, not expecting an answer.

Silence.

Just as they thought, no reply.

They put the pepperoni back in the fridge, where it wasn't originally, but they don't care.

They walked over to the foot of the stairs and noticed something.

There was a bit of blood at the top, staining the carpeted stairs.

"...Dude?"

No reply.

"You can stop joking now."

No reply.

They started to walk up the stairs, stepping carefully, to make sure that they didn't make the floorboards creak.

Slowly, carefully even, they walked up the stairs, more and more of the blood coming into their vision.

"Are you joking with me...? Is this fake blood...?" they muttered under their breath as they reached the top of the stairs.

They turned towards the source of the blood and saw a corpse.

That corpse had been stabbed with a knife, a small kitchen knife. It was a green one. The knife had been lodged in between their ribs, stabbing through the lung.

"..."

"..."

A shriek erupted from their throat, from their vocal cords, due to the shock that they just saw their sibling.
