Melissa was acutely aware of Griffins stomach against her shoulder. He had come to her to ask a favor, and was watching as her fingers danced across the keyboard, completing her set task. It was taking longer than it should have, because his closeness was making it impossible to concentrate. She thought about asking him to move, but some part of her was enjoying the contact, and refused to do it. So she plowed onward, trying to ignore the pressure on her shoulder. Why was this happening? She'd done this many times, her working, Griffin peering over her shoulder as she typed, but she'd never found his proximity worthy of note. Maybe it was because all the other times the rest of their friends were there. Finally she managed to overcome the part of her that was enjoying his closeness and say, "This might take a while, you should sit down." "Okay, sure." Griffin pulled up a chair next to her and sat. Melissa let out a small sigh, finally she could get some work done. Then she felt Griffins leg pressing against her own, and mentally groaned. But she diligently kept working. When Griffin braced his arm against the back of her chair to lean forward slightly, Melissa almost stopped breathing. She was shaken out of her stupor when he asked, "So, how does this work?" Melissa processed for a second, her mind still focusing on Griffins imminent closeness. She explained to the best of her abilities, but she didn't think Griffin understood any of what she said. A few moments later she hit the enter key and said, "Finished." They both stood. "Great, I owe you one." Griffin said, starting towards the door. Melissa lightly touched his arm, and he turned back toward her, eyebrows raised questioningly. For a moment she just stood there, uncertain why she had stopped him. Then she leaned in and kissed him, just for a moment, and then pulled away. "Now we're even." She said, smiling. Griffin stood frozen in shock for a moment, before mumbling, "See you around." And stumbling out the door. Melissa lay down on her bed with a sigh. She may have preferred computers, but sometimes people won out.
