Alicia woke up with a blurry vision in a far too bright room.
She looked around and her lips curled into a smile when she noticed a couple of bags of sweets on her nightstand. She reched after them, and realized that even though the old pain had disappeared, an irritating papercut-like feeling made it difficult for her to move. But it was not stopping her. She threw a candy into her mouth, and absent-mindedly picked up the small paper she found near them.
I was planning to stay until you wake up, but I had to leave to pick up my brother. I hope you understand.
And I almost wrote here that I wish for you to get better, but I assume you'd take it as an insult. So just keep doing your best, and take care of yourself.
If we ever see each other again, I hope you won't remember us with resentment.
I won't. S.M
The note left Alicia with a bittersweet feeling. Goodbye, Sergio... I really hope that I won't have to hunt you down one day...
She didn't remember them with resentment, she had no reason to, but there were some mixed feelings fighting for dominance in her, all of them leading to the conclusion that this was nothing, but a huge failure from her part. From every perspective. She just wanted to forget it all. And at the same time she didn't want to.
She noticed that her phone was signalling a missed call. It was from Raquel. When she tapped the screen she also saw that she had more, older missed calls, and also a recent outgoing one. You son of a bitch! What were you up to?! She shook her head as she called Raquel.
"Alicia?!"
"Yeah, hey-"
"Oh, thank God, I was so worried about you! What the hell happened?"
"Nothing. I just... realized that Berlin is not for me. So I came back. Nothing happened, Raquel."
"I see... Why are you in hospital?"
"I... had an acute appendicitis. Worst timing possible, right?" she laughed.
"What? Your doctor told me that you had an injury."
"My doctor?"
"Yeah, the one who called me to...- Did he transmit my message to you?" Alicia sensed as Raquel's voice became more suspicious.
"What message?"
"Damn it, Alicia... Who else was with you when you got there?"
Alicia swallowed. She didn't want more problems to escalate. "No one. You've probably talked to a resident who didn't know exactly what happened yet. I had a minor injury after all, but that was not why I am here."
"Alicia... I don't know what you've gotten yourself into, and this is not the moment to discuss it... But I had the feeling that the guy who called me was not a doctor. And just in case he'd be... dangerous... I kind of lured him into a trap."
"A trap?!" Alicia snapped.
"I told him that we have his bother and-"
"You have his borther?!" Alicia pressed the phone to her ear being alarmed.
"No. But I thought it would-"
"God, Raquel..." it was the second time in the course of a day that Alicia felt guilty for feeling relief. After everything what happened, the idea of the police having had caught Andres made her stomach hurt and her hands shake. "You shouldn't have done that."
"Really?! I couldn't reach you! I thought you were in trouble!"
"I appreaciate your concern, but I weren't. And I am not." I hope so... "But I have to hung up now, Raquel. We'll talk later."
