{On My Deathbed}

She laid still, heaving slowly while he knelt beside her,out of his mind. Clothes dripped in blood of her own, she smiled at his face, attempting to raise her arms though wincing through the pain. "Please stay still" he begged but she still touched his wet cheek. Of course he was crying.

"What are these useless tears" she chuckled. Coughing immediately, the rotten taste of blood accumulating in her mouth pushed her to turn aside and spit out the blood. He patted her back quietly.

"It was meant to be this way...." she began but he tried to shush her. His thoughts were all over the place yet he hoped and hoped for her safety. A wasted hope of course.

"Sasuke...." she whispered, fighting the pain that shot up her body with every breath. But she had to. He had to know. She couldn't die without at least letting him know.

"I love you" she whispered as her chest stopped moving and her eyes rolled back over her head.

He screamed in fury. He cradled her corpse pleading to the vast green trees and the sky for her to just live again. For him to just talk to her one final time.

She was gone. And he was trapped in a world without her. A world that he no longer belonged to. A frightening world. He remembered her last words, pulling her body away from him just to get one final look.

"I love you too" his tears were mixed with the dripping sweat and blood that ran down his forehead to his chin. Bending low, he pressed his salty lips against her soft yet cold skin for the first and unfortunately the last time. Her warmth faded with each passing second and so did his happiness.

He was supposed to laugh. He ought to smile. The war had finally ended. They won. He deserved at least some happiness. After the death of his clan he couldn't lose anyone else. Fate never played his game. Fate controlled his game. Her smile had left this world. She had left this world. Why was he living? Why wasn't he the one who died? So many questions. So many.

"Sasuke...." a gentle yet firm voice spoke beside him. Kakashi. He held his shoulder, squeezing it tightly. Slowly one by one, the crowd expanded. Naruto stood beside Sasuke while Sakura on his other side. Sakura closed her eyes forcing the waterdrops to come to a halt.

"Sasuke...." Naruto began and he knew what he would say.

"I know" he clenched his teeth, burying his nails deep into his skin, bleeding them out. "I'll carry her" he picked her up effortlessly, turning on his heels to head home. To bring her home.

Hugging her corpse closer, he finally placed her in a simple brown coffin. No words needed to be said. He knew he had conveyed everything through his actions. He knew her. She knew him.

"Thank you" was his final spoken word before he left the funeral quietly, slipping back into the woods, ripping aside his black outfit. Wandering aimlessly around the thick woodland while thoughts were all over the place.

His heart ached. He longed for her to just come back. He hoped to see her. Was it possible? Could he ever see her again? Couldn't he have lived a beautiful life with her? What were these mind games that the universe created?

But every unnecessary question came to a pause when he felt something pierce through his chest. Letting out a gasp, he turned to see an old enemy.

"Y--you?" he coughed falling onto his knees almost immediately.

"Sorry friend. I had to" he grinned mischievously before departing leaving a dying Sasuke all alone.

Crying for help was of no use. He knew he was in his final moments. Yet he had never been happier. His life turned out perfect in the end. Just perfect. Finally he could reunite with everyone he missed dearly. His mom, his dad, his brother, his clan and most importantly the one true love of his life.

"Perfect ....." he whispered as he felt all his systems closing down. He heard the faint yells from all the way across the forest but he would be long gone once they found him. Long gone.

"What a life...." he laughed for the final time closing his eyes forever.

And what was meant to be an already sad day just got more depressing as Naruto stumbled upon his peaceful corpse.  He didn't shed a single tear. But he carried his enemy, his best friend back to his home.

"I hope you meet her again" Naruto smiled.
