10. Conviction

Fine's POV:

My eyes shot open and a yawn left my mouth. Squirming a little, I turned around on my bed, hoping that I would fall asleep again. But it was too late, since I wasn't feeling sleepy anymore. I lifted up my upper body from the bed, while my body still being groggy.

What time is it?

I looked towards the clock to know the time, then I realized it was just 4 a.m. and released a sigh. What shall I do now? A lot of hours are left until the time when I normally wake up. Should I perhaps try to fall asleep again?

Just then, I could feel my throat getting thirsty, so I went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water. After I finished the task, I reached the bedroom, now my thirst fully satisified. However, as I was about to lay down, my gaze fell upon Momo's sleeping face.

She looked cute even while sleeping. I sat on the bed, in order to closely observe her. Her hair were somewhat entangled with each other, one of her hands was under her blanket, while the other one was on the pillow. Her lips were slightly parted.

They seemed so glossy, soft and... tempting. I wonder if she would mind if I kissed–

When I registered what I just thought, I became surprised myself. What am I even thinking? Momo would be so creeped out if she notices this. Me, trying to smooch her, while she was sleeping. And on top of that, we've never kissed one another on the lips, so it's non-consentual, too.

I know that lust is taking over me, but still... I become unable to resist when I glance at her petite figure. I was facing an internal conflict, but at last, I gave up on resisting myself. Maybe just... a small touch...

I lowered my face slowly towards Momo's, trying to do it as quietly as possible. I can already feel the guilt building up, but I've made my decision. I continued to move nearer, until the point when our lips were almost touching. They're probably an inch apart. My cheeks were burning up with nervousness, excitement and embarrassment, all at once.

An instant later, I could feel her breath. I gulped, and prepared for the kiss. Whatever happens now, happens. I'm sorry Momo, I'm really really sorry. Apologizing to her in my mind, I closed my eyes. Okay, here goes–

"Fine?" A soft voice called out to me.

No sooner did I hear the voice, I quickly opened my eyes, as the worst possibilty which I predicted came to reality.

Momo had woken up. Oh, no.

I shot upright on the bed, away from her. When she said my name, her eyes were filled with tiredness. But now, upon comprehending what I was about to do, her eyes widened in shock. Even she sprang up from the bed. Both of our faces were as red as tomatoes, our gazes averting from each other. We were too embarrassed to make eye contact.

For quite a while, we both just sat there, without any sound. An awkward silence spread over the room. I was questioning all my life choices after this shameful moment. Endless questions were hovering over my mind. What if Momo thinks I'm too forceful? Will she leave me– No of course not, we love each other, so she'll forgive me... right? What will I do now?

After what felt like forever, Momo eventually spoke up–

"W–Were you trying to k–kiss me?" She asked faintly, her tone was hesitant.

At that question, all my thought process left my brain, so I instantly began apologizing–

"That was... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Looked I did try to do it, but there's a reason for that. Please listen to my explanation, it's honest, completely honest. Now I woke up in the middle of the night, but then I realized I wasn't sleepy, then I drank some water, then again tried to sleep, then I was almost about to lay down, but then..."
