PROLOGUE
My life is messy and painful. I have a complete family, living in a big mansion with complete furnitures, my bedroom is full of toys and clothes, and we are financially stable."Tricia! Tricia!" napatalon ako sa sobrang gulat dahil sa malakas na sigaw galing sa labas ng kwarto ko. Frustration and disappointment is visible in my Lola's face as she entered my room holding a piece of paper, probably my exam paper.
"Po? Anong pong meron Lola?" kinakabahan na tanong ko. I looked down when she glared at me.
What did I do wrong again? Maganda naman damit ko and my hair is neat just like what she wants. I'm also wearing a heels like what she wants kahit nasa kwarto lang ako. I also finished my homeworks and review my notes as she said. So, what's the problem?
"What is this?" she hand me out my exam paper and saw the reason why she's mad. "49 over 50? Ano na lang sasabihin ng mga amiga ko? That I have a failed granddaughter? Do you know how embarrassing is this? This is so easy!"
I kept my head down but she cupped my chin and lifted it up, her expression calmed down a bit. "I'll hire another tutor for you so next time," she paused and look at my study table. "Next time I don't want to see red marks on your paper, understand?"
I nodded.
"And next time, don't look down . You should always keep your chin up." she said and I nodded. "Don't nod your head!"
"Y-yes po, Lola." utal na sagot ko. I can feel my hands tremble because of how she reacts earlier.
She put the exam paper to the table. I watched her examining my notes and books. After that, she looked at me seriously. "Now, go back to your study. Study and aim the highest score next time. And if I said highest, I mean the perfect score."
When she went out, I let my tears fall.
Tita Mayumi pushed the books in the edge of my table. She put a hand towel soaked with cold water in my forehead and cover me with my blanket.
"I need to study, Tita Mayumi." I said in a low voice, laying down in my bed. I need to study for our quiz tomorrow. I perfect all my quizzes, test, assignments, essays and even my performance tasks bit I also need to perfect my score tomorrow. And I'm not confident that I can perfect it because of my situation. So, I therefore conclude, I need to review once more.
"In case you didn't know, lovely, your sick. You need to take care of yourself first. Baka mas magkasakit ka sa ginagawa mo." she looked at me seriously.
"In case you didn't know too, Tita," I mimicked her. "Lola will scold me if I don't get perfect score. At tsaka mas bumuti na rin naman po ako."
She sighed and give me a sad smile. She move my chair near my bed and sat down. I yawned for the nth time. I'm sleepy.
"Wala pa rin po ba sina Mom and Dad?" umiling naman siya bilang sagot. "Did they even know that I'm sick or they just didn't care?" I saw Tita looks sad because of what I asked.
"Sinabihan ko naman na sila. Pero!" she paused and hold my hand. "Pero sabi nila papunta na raw sila. Malay mo natraffic lang somewhere?"
"Traffic saan, Tita? Na traffic ba sila while doing their works? Or they just don't care about me?" mahinang saad ko at pumikit upang ikalma ang sarili.
You know what's funny? They just arrived 2 days after my fever was gone. And instead of asking me about my health, they immediately asked me about school. And when I said that I am sure that I'm going to be the Top Student again, they just nod and pat my head.
