Jin glanced at the clock while buttoning up his white shirt. He hurried to the mirror and combed his hair back, setting it away from from his face keeping his forehead on full display.
He applied some cologne on his pulse points and scurried out of his room while rolling his shirt sleeves to his elbows.
He strided towards the kitchen and called out loud "Mom, are you ready. Can we head out now?". While waiting for her reply, he took huge gulps of the orange juice from the glass that was placed on the table for him.
He turned back when he heard his mom from the living room "Yes Jin, I am ready. I was actually waiting for you. Hurry up, we are going to be late".
Jin cursed himself internally and took long strides to the living room after disposing the glass into the sink carefully.
He took his car keys and the house keys from the bowl by the main door and ushered his mom out. He locked the door and sprinted to the car unlocking it. He and his mom slid into the car and fastened their seat belts.
Jin started the car and sped off- not very fast as to not make his mom anxious.
He was scolding himself for waking up late on this day. He felt his mom patting his hand and telling "Relax son. Don't beat yourself up. Everyone understands that you were exhausted and over-slept, ok? Calm down because we can easily reach on time".
Jin heard his mom and took deep calming breaths. He smiled and thanked his mom.
As soon as they reached their destination, Jin's dad who was already present at the destination walked to them and asked to be followed soon.
Jin was never so scared of someone scolding him, but this time it was different. He feared this person's scoldings very much.
He jogged and came to an abrupt stop when he saw the one person he was scared of glare at him with a pout.
As the person walked closer to Jin, he gulped down terrified of what he is gonna hear. That person scolded Jin "Dad, why are you so late? I almost walked in just before you came. Now wish me luck, quick!!".
Jin kneeled down and embraced his 7 year old daughter, Byeol tightly and kissed her cheeks wishing her luck. She pulled back and smiled at him. She kissed Jin's cheeks in return and thanked him.
She turned back to him suddenly while walking away and narrowed her eyes warning him "Dad!! This should be the last time you are coming late to my match, got it?".
Jin smiled at her brightly and fisted both his hands up "Got it sweetheart. FIGHTING!!".
He noticed his husband, Tae standing at a distance holding his 3 year old son, Dal in his arms. He saw Tae trying very hard to not laugh out loud after witnessing what just happened. Jin could just sigh and shake his head.
Jin's dad patted him on his shoulder and asked him to stand up. Then they all walked towards the outdoor bleachers where the sweetest girl of their house was gonna play recreational volleyball- after all she's the daughter of 2 former national level volleyball players.
Tae walked towards Jin and Jin took Dal from his hands when his son reached out for Jin. They both shared a quick peck and walked hand in hand.
Tae giggled at Jin and asked "Now, is it your new interest to have our daughter scold you everyday?". Jin rolled his eyes and said "Funny!! It's just that I am her favorite parent and she seeks attention from me all the time in such a way, that's it".
Tae nudged him playfully and said "Yeah, yeah!! Keep believing so. Let me remind you, I became her Appa even before you became her Dad".
Jin pouted and said "Oh come on Tae!! Stop using this deadly weapon of telling me you becoming her Appa first".
Tae looked at him with adoration in his eyes and leaned forward to kiss his cheek. Jin smiled back at him and happily walked to watch their little girl play.
That first date that took place 12 years back was what knit them together for life, after 4 years of dating. Jin was 29 and Tae was 27 when they got married to each other.
Tae decided to retire from the team when he was 32 while Jin continued for 2 more years before he too decided to retire.
As soon as Tae retired, he mentioned about adopting a girl to be a part of their life. Jin and his parents were overwhelmed with happiness and supported Tae's decision.
Hence they adopted a almost 2 year old Byeol. They decided on Byeol because as soon as Tae, Jin and their parents walked in the orphanage, she came running towards Tae calling him Appa. Tae immediately looked at Jin and Jin just understood that Byeol was their daughter that they were in search of.
Jin had retired when she turned 3. He had secured a 9-5 job in a company and got paid very well.
When Byeol turned 4 years, she had whined about having a sibbling since all her friends at school either had a baby brother or a baby sister. She said she also wanted to be a big sister to her baby brother.
Jin and Tae already talked about adopting an other child long before Byeol had mentioned about it.
But this time, Tae and Jin went to the orphanage alone. They were told there was a 6 month old baby boy left on the stairs of the orphanage a few days back. Their heart constricted for the poor baby.
They were taken to the baby and they both peeked at the baby in the crib. The baby had a little frown and cute little pout while sleeping, Jin reached out to caress the baby boy's cheek. They both were pleasantly surprised when the baby wrapped his little plump fingers around one of Jin's fingers.
Next they knew, they named the boy Dal and brought him home. Byeol was too excited to meet her baby brother.
She jumped up and down seeing her dad carry her brother in a soft and bright purple blanket.
They grew up to be very caring siblings. They never teamed against each other. They always teamed together to fight their parents or grandparents.
They would often go on kids dates where Jimin and Hobi would bring along their spouses and kids as well.
Tae and Jin would visit Daegu thrice a year for Byeol and Dal to meet their other grandparents too.
Neither Tae nor Jin ever tried forcing their interests on their children. But somehow Byeol became interested in the sport of volleyball.
Looking at her enthusiasm, they made her join a recreational volleyball training for kids. The training center would conduct small matches for motivating and teaching the kids life lessons as well.
Today was one such match that the training center has organised. Jin and Tae sat on the bleachers next to Jin’s parents.
They sat there proudly watching their daughter play so well, helping her friends in need as well.
Jin leaned towards Tae and whispered in his ear "It's been long since we had some time for ourselves. So, wanna go on a date with me to Yours café tonight?".
Tae smiled and nodded his head looking at Jin.
Tae and Jin are always confident while pulling each other's leg for fun, but they turn into a blushing mess when it comes to romance no matter how much time has passed by.
They exactly know who they are for themselves and who they are for each other- no words required.
