Alfred looked at the piece of thin paper that was given to him by his boyfriend, Arthur Kirkland. The paper had the name of the Italian restaurant he was supposed to meet him at. Arthur had said that he wanted to "talk about their relationship", and Alfred could infer that this probably wasn't a good thing.
Stepping inside, he was greeted with a wave of warm air washing over him, and the smell of wine and oregano. Taking a seat, he was approached by a rather grumpy looking waiter.
"What can I get you today?" He asked but it came out as more of an exasperated sigh.
Alfred was not put off by his demeanor. He took a close look at the waiters name tag.
"Lovino, huh? I'm Alfred! Nice to meet ya!" He exclaimed and extended his hand.
The waiter rolled his eyes and repeated his initial question, "What can I get you?"
Before Alfred could answer, he heard the voice of his lover. "Hello, Alfred, " Arthur said as he sat down across the table, entirely ignoring their waiter. "I'm sorry I'm so late, but we really must talk."
"It's all cool, dude. What is it you wanna talk about?" Alfred asked calmly, but on the inside he was nervous and unfocused. He knew exactly what Arthur wanted to talk about. He wanted to break up, but Alfred had no idea why. In his opinion, their relationship was going great. In fact, he was even considering proposing soon. So why did Arthur want to break it off? Alfred tried to comfort himself in the fact that he didn't know for sure that Arthur wanted to break up.
Arthur began talking. "It's about us." He said. A moment of tense silence passed over the two. It seemed to go on forever. "I'm breaking up with you." He finally said.
Although Alfred had been expecting this for a while now, he felt as of his heart was torn into a thousand pieces and thrown off of a cliff. "B-but why? I thought things were going so well and I thought we were in love and tha-" His rambling was cut off when Arthur began to speak again
"I'm sorry, Alfred. It's just that I know how much you care for me and I don't think I can feel the same. I'm sorry" Arthur got up from tbe table and walked out the door.
Al felt like a piece of shattered glass. Everything he thought he had, love, trust, had just been tossed out of his reach.
Lovino's anger was now replaced pity. He had just seen a man's heart get broken in two. He was about to offer the poor guy some comfort, but he recognized something in the air. The thickening darkness, the undeniable smell of burning gasoline. His mind immediately had but one word on it. Fire.
