Fight and Fly

Chaster 2 - Ambush

*Max POV*

.....where am I?

Everything is a bit disorientating when I first open my eyes. After I blink a couple of times, I focus on my surrounding. I'm on a small bed in a room with plain white walls and a white ceiling. It all looks normal enough. For now, I'm alone and I feel safe enough. I take the time to think.

*Flashback*

The day was going perfectly so far, and I loved it. Even thought it meant we were probably going to run into trouble sooner or later. But right now, it didn't matter. It was just the open skies, the Flock, and I. Currently we were just flying through the United States, looking for some fun.

"Hey guys! Look at this!" Gazzy shouted.

The Flock and I stop flying forward and hover for a second as we look behind our shoulders. Gazzy twirls up into the sky with his wing flapping hard behind him. And when it looks like he goes as high as he wants to, he suddenly pulls in his wings, wrapping them tightly around his body. Gazzy dropped like a stone, speeding down to the forest below. I watched for a few seconds expecting him to suddenly fly back up and do a flip or something. But nothing happened.

I grew more and more anxious, hoping he was just playing a prank. I knew everyone else was worried too. Angel was scared, Fang and Iggy were already making their way down to the ground, and Nudge wasn't talking. Then all of a sudden there was a shout. The Flock and I quickly lowered down to the ground, alert and searching for Gazzy.

"Help! Max! Fang!!!" I heard a shout. "Help!"

I quickly turned to the direction where the shout came from. It was Gazzy, I was sure of it.

"Guys, quickly!" I yelled as I sprinted forward.

Being bird kids, we ran pretty fast. So of course we reached Gazzy in a short while. Just one problem. Erasers. They were everywhere, circling Gazzy from the ground , and spiraling all the way into the sky. The Flock didn't waste any time. I was enraged. How dare they try to capture us! We weren't going to lose a member of the family ever again.

Fang and I each jumped onto an Eraser while the girls were backing up Iggy.

We were all throwing punches and kicks, trying to reach the center of the spiral where Gazzy was trapped. I thought we were making pretty good progress until I was unexpectedly grabbed by my hair and tugged backwards into the air.

"Haven't seen you for awhile, Maximum!"

After I gain my balance in the air and hover, I whip my head around and face my attacker. I gasp and then snarl."Ari!"

"Hey! Sorry to interrupt your flight, but the School kinda needs you for something. So you and the rest of the bird kids are coming back with us!"

"No way in hell!" I dart forward and aim a kick at his face.

Ari must have been trained pretty hard, considering he moved lightly to the side and grabbed my foot. And then whipped me around and chucked my body to to the ground. Unfortunately, he was also stronger and I had no footing at all.

I crashed right into the base of a couple trees. I was pretty shaken up.

Ari landed gracefully right in front of me.

"I got some good news for you Max. Change of plans. We don't need you. Turns out we only need the little ones. The blind kid and emo boy have already been taken out, so I guess there's just you left. Bye, Max!"

And with that, Ari kicked me right in the stomach and into the air. I didn't have any strength to move, but I had many thoughts going through my head. The Flock. I had failed them again. I didn't even know what I was gonna do. Where I was. Wait a second... where was I actually? I looked around. Were those... kids? But they were so far away. Across the lake I was eventually going to fall into. But at the last second, I made eye contact with one of the kids. With my vision, I had no trouble noticing his raven black hair and piercing sea green eyes. Then I hit the water.

*End of flashback*

I immediately jumped off of my bed onto the ground. The flock! I had to find them, no doubt they were in trouble! But before I could take another step the door to the room opened.
