Back in the second era, Sauron founded witches who conspired together for his benefit. It all began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves. Immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf-lords. Great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. Nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else desired power.
Then there was one ring made for the witches. Astute in magic of all arts and cunning masterminds. Witches were graceful, stunning, and blessed with long life. Their beauty could also trick the mind from any race. Meant to be ready wives to Sauron, witches were the second greatest threat to Middle-Earth.

I remember my ceremony from when I was just born, as clear as the day. The sun peered through the trees that surrounded the alter. All the sisters were present, as Mother had just given birth to me, the heiress of the coven.
Mother had me with a human Man. She was stunningly beautiful, and likely to have chosen any man she wished. But she chose someone who I would never meet. I sometimes wish I would have known him, to know from whence I came, but Mother and my sisters were enough for me. They were my family, and when Mother met Sauron, he was too.
The memory was unlike any other. It's the most vivid memory I have, like all witches remember their ceremony. As I said, I was just born. Sisters gathered around us as Mother lifted me into the air. The sun laid upon my skin and I cooed at the ravens that flew above me. My sisters started chanting a protective spell for me, and Mother welcomed me into the world.
"Grata mundo. Hic est heres to the coven of Briar!" Mother said. "Ut non sit fortis. Et sapientum, sapientissimus omnium. Grata to the world, Blythe Briar, heiress to the coven!"
"Blythe. Blythe. Blythe." The sisters chanted.
Then I felt it. I felt the first ounce of power flow through my veins. It was like I was struck my lighting as electricity filled my body. The chanting got louder and I started crying in pain.
"Blythe Briar. Blythe Briar. Blythe Briar." They chanted more.
I remember screaming as loud as I could before everything went silent. The pain stopped, but I felt this lingering feeling. The feeling that I had magic inside my body, and having no idea how to control it. Mother then brought me back down and rocked me in her arms.
"Welcome to the family little one." She whispered and kissed my forehead.
And then everything went dark.

I was a mere eleven years old when I was taught how to control my magic. It's was Sister Collette's responsibility to teach me all I need to know. The first spell she taught me was candlelight. A basic spell, to create light in the darkness. I caught on quickly.
"Now, for something more advanced." Sister Collette said. "Try this."
She then waved her finger around, and suddenly the wind around us whistled and she was lifted off her feet. I laughed and clapped in amazement.
"You're flying!" I cheered.
Sister Collette then landed back on the ground and gently shook her head. "It's called levitation little one. And you can do it too." She said. "Try now, come on."
I closed my eyes to harness my power and felt it gravitate to my hands. I then pointed up a finger and felt the wind already start to get stronger. Then I waved my finger, and up I went. I laughed and looked down at the ground, which was several feet under me.
"How do I come down?" I asked, starting to get worried.
"Gently lower your finger." She said.
I did exactly was she said, and a second later I was back on the ground. My landing was a little rough, but other than that I was perfect.
"I want to learn more." I told Sister Collette.
"In due time little one. There's much more you need to learn. But it all comes within time."
"Yes sister."

I was sixteen years old when I mastered It was Sister Agnes who taught me about potions and alchemical ingredients.
"They're your friend." She said. "You never know when you'll need a potion or poison. It could save your life... or ruin the life of another."
She told me all about nightshade, jungleberry, toads foot, and every alchemical ingredient I'd need to create poisons. She told me poisons come in many forms. It could be a liquid, which I can dip an arrow or marbles in. Or a powder that can be inhaled or ingested.
Then she taught me about potions. Potions that could heal myself, or others, very quickly. Or potions could be used to restore my magic, because witches only have so much power they can use at one time.
"You're an heiress, heres, which means you have more magic than any of us Sisters. Uti prudenter, use it wisely."
"Yes sister."
