Chapter Two
When I woke up my eyes had to adjust. Light was filling in my room. I got up slowly. "Happy Eighteenth birthday Alex!!" My mom said as she saw me awake.
I got up and rubbed my eyes. Then I remembered the questions. I looked over to her. She was wearing a nice shirt and blue jeans. Her hair was curled. "Who were you talking to earlier?" I stared at her, and saw her pupils enlarge. "Honey,. You must be hallucinating." She said. "Answer me.." I was tired of playing games. She got up and looked out my bedroom window as expecting some one was waiting for something. She sighed. She looked back to me, I could see she had cold heart fear in her eyes. "Mom, please." She fiddled with her fingers. "We made a mistake... We made a contract." "A contract to what?" I got up from sitting and opened the door.
I walked in to the kitchen. I didn't understand why.. Or who? She followed me like a lost kitten. I poured a bowl of cereal and milk. The phone rang, my mother and I locked eyes. I grabbed it and answered. "Hello?" Silence. "This isn't funny..." I said. Heavy breathing on the other end. "Kill her... Kill her... Kill her!.." I hung up. "It did it again!! What is going on?!"
"I have to tell you something dear.. You know how I said, your father died?" I nodded slowly. "He didn't actually die.." I stared at her. "Wha..-what!?" I asked. "I sent him away, I didn't want him to be near you."
Their was a knock on the door. I got up naturally. I patted my pocket and got out my pocket knife. I opened the door halfway. "Alexandria...?" I stared at the man, he was about six foot, blue eyes, greying hair that has a touch of brown to it. He was wearing a long sleeved collar shirt and loose jeans. My eyes went up to his eyes, they were soft. "Oh, thank God it's you!" He pulled me into a hug. I stood there as he hugged me. "Paul..." My mother said in the background. He let me go as I back away. The knife shined from the light. He saw it. "It's started hasn't it?" He asked, looking over to my mother. "I'm afraid so." I sat on the couch. I grabbed the picture of my dad out of my pocket. I knew who this was. "Paul,. This is Alexandria, your daughter." I was suddenly had a burst of anger. She kept him a secret from my whole life except a picture.
I put the picture back as he sat in a chair in front of me. "Hi, I'm Pa-.. I'm...?" "Your my father. I'll just call you Paul, if that's okay." He showed his disappointment in his eyes. I felt numb. Weird things were happening to me for unknown reasons. And I could know those reasons; if they would tell me. "I'm going out." "What? Why?" My mom asked. "Because I want too?" "It's dangerous outside.." She said. "Oh yeah? Then what am I hiding from?" She looked away and went back to washing the dishes. I grabbed the keys, my phone and wallet.
I remembered my dream. The way everything looked so grey in the apartment. I slid my fingers against the dingy wall. I couldn't get rid of the uneasiness of someone watching me around every corner. I looked over my shoulder, seeing a shadow slink behind the corner. "Hello?" My voice seemed to echo. Slowly I started walking to get outside. But every corner I turned it was the same hallway. "What the..." I started running! I turned a corner, seeing what looked like an older man. "Hey.." I started walking toward him. He slowly turned around, he started walking toward me. The first thing I noticed was his limp as he walked toward me. The light started blinking and it burned out. "Alex...." A voice that was gutty said.I started running back. That was not a normal guy. He was twitching as he walked, when I saw his face it was half ripped off, a black red goo dripping from it. It slopped down on to the carpet. I looked to the apartment door next to me. 143. I didn't look back as I ran.
I ended back at my apartment. Maybe my mom would believe me this time. What ever this was, it didn't want me to leave.
I opened the door, expecting my mom and Paul talking. But no one was there. I walked in. "Mom?" Silence. "Paul?" Silence. I set my keys on the counter and started walking toward her room. I opened it. No one was there. I check my room and the bathroom. "I would of saw them if they left..." I said thinking aloud. I sighed. This was messing with my sanity.
I was starting to doubt myself. Was this just another nightmare I can't seem to wake up from..? Was this just my mind playing tricks on me? Was this just my imagination...?
The windows in the apartment started rattling. One window blew open, and the curtains started blowing. As a cool breeze came in. "I thought I locked those.." I massaged my temples.
Was this a test from above? I didn't understand. The door started rattling. Someone was trying to open it. "Not this again..."
