After the Christmas break everyone, quite obviously, went back to Hogwarts after about 2 weeks. (as they had a 4 1/2 week break.)

Everyone enjoyed Christmas. With gifts being shared amongst everyone, along with laughter and smiles, that day had been a good day. Cookies and milk, along with Mia's famous desert recipe for brownies. It was amazing. This was the best Christmas of their lives.

When everyone was seated and eating, Lily decided to share the news of her newly found relationship with a boy who was in their year, Gideon Prewett.

James didn't know who the boy was, but just knew she was dating someone. He couldn't believe that she was dating one of the other prankers in the school. Of course he liked Gideon, he was a good friend, and a nice boy, but he wanted to be that boy. He wanted to be her prankster.

After that, James smile had fallen. Though he tried hard to make it seem like he was alright. He wasn't. Though he already knew she was dating someone, the public announcement hadn't helped him take it any better.

Everyone could tell he was hurting. But none of them wanted to bring it up.

Lily didn't care that he was hurting because of her. She didn't even like him. But it was simply human to feel atleast a little guilty being the cause of someone's sadness.

But that didn't let her smile fade a bit. She was finally happy with someone. And that's all that mattered to her.

Odetta cheered the loudest. She was happy for Lily. She finally found someone who actually made her happy. Despite never dating anyone before, she was still happy for Lily nonetheless.

The boys cheered a bit but not as much as the girls. They were truly happy for Lily. Although not really close with James, they still felt bad for him, and wondered how he was taking it.

A little later, James had gone upstairs, not able to bear it any longer, and soon, fell asleep.

He was truly hurt. If you got a good look at what he actually felt, it would sadden you as well.

James was a good guy, honestly. He just let his pride get in the way of everything at times. But that's how James was. He thought the key to winning over Lily was acting like he was the biggest, baddest boy in the world. Showing off all of his achievements in attempts to woo her.

But she was the exact opposite. She didn't want a boy who boasted about winning every quidditch game. She didn't want a boy who acted so tough when in reality all he was, was a big softie. She wanted a boy who would be calm and content with her, a boy who could act normal. Although she wanted to be his "most prized possession" she didn't want him to treat her like queen Elizabeth everywhere they went.

But Lily found her "he", and she is happy with him.

So all James is left to do is wallow in self pity, left to thin that he won't ever be good enough for her. That he can't, and won't ever, be her "he".

Later that night, he went downstairs. After everyone was asleep, or so he thought.

There was Odetta, sitting in the kitchen, slowly sipping on a tea she'd made just minutes before. It seemed she couldn't sleep as well.

"Well well, look who it is," James joked, pretending to waltz into the kitchen where she was, "What are you doing up at such an hour?" He asked, motioning to a nearby clock, showing 2:00.

"Oh nothing. Couldn't sleep, so I made some tea," she said, motioning to her still steaming tea.

"Green?" He asked.
