Sirius's Pov:
Damn. Today has been something else. I was left all alone at school, because my mom "fell asleep on the couch" again. I know she's just drunk again, even though she just got back from rehab less than a month ago, and is supposed to be staying clean. Whatever. I'll just walk to Nova's house. I know she always has my back. Her parents know my whole situation, and I even lived with them while my mom was in rehab. They treated me so well, I didn't want to leave. But since my
Mom is my only legal guardian now, I had no other choice. I call my mom to tell her I'm going to Nova's house, but she doesn't pick up. She's probably passed out on the couch once again. When she's drunk, she can't even stay awake for more than two minutes. I've timed it. I've witnessed it way too many times, so I know things. I start walking to Nova's house, texting her on the way there. She instantly replies, which is nice.

Vae is her nickname. I mispronounced her name when we first met in preschool, and it's stuck with us ever since then. I don't know how novae even sounds remotely like nova. But me being the four year old I was, I stuttered a lot. As I'm walking to Nova's house, I find a really pretty girl, sitting on the swings. I walk over to her, because she looks sad. She must be a new girl.
"Hey! I just wanted to say that I really like your hair. And your outfit." I say, nervously.
"Oh, thanks." She says, as she's wiping her tears I hadn't noticed before.
"Are you okay?"
"Uh- yeah. I'm new here and it's just been hard transferring."
"I'm sorry and I really hope it gets better. Is there a specific reason you moved here?"
"Yea. My father passed away about a month ago, and I've had to move in with my grandmother, since she's the only one left that could take care of me."
"Oh wow I'm sorry for your loss. I also lost my dad, two years ago."
"Sorry for your loss too. I'm Lyra by the way."
"Oh my gosh I love your name. I'm Sirius!"
"Thanks! I love yours too."
"Are you going anywhere anytime soon?"
"Nah. I just moved here. I have no idea where anything is and I have zero friends."
"Would you wanna come to my friend's house with me? I promise she wont kidnap you."
"You know what, fuck it. I'm in."
I smile, and we get off of the swings, and we hear the leaves crunching under our feet. Best sound on earth. We end up talking about things we have in common, which are mostly how we love reading books, and watching Netflix shows. We end up on Nova's doorstep, and I ring the doorbell. Her parents answer, with a big smile on their faces.
"Welcome back Sirius! Nova is up in her room. We've made lasagna for when you girls get hungry."
Lyra steps out from behind me, and shakes their hands.
"Hi, I'm Lyra. Sorry for the late introduction."
"Well lovely to meet you Lyra. What a beautiful name. I'm mrs.hamerström, but you can call me Anna."
In case you couldn't already tell, they're Swedish. We walk inside, and greet their dog, Pluto. we then walk up to Vae's room, walking up the beautiful hardwood stairs, with a stunning chandelier over the middle of the room. We walk into Vae's room, as she's reading her book. She looks up at us, and smiles at Lyra.
"Oh, hi! I'm Nova. You can call me whatever though."
"Hey, I'm Lyra!"
They exchange smiles, and we all sit on Vae's bed. We turn her LED lights on to purple, her favorite color. We then talk lots about our favorite foods, and favorite things to do. We all decide to watch a movie and get snacks. The movie we decide on if my favorite, of course, the babadook. We turn the led lights to purple, and we all snuggle up under one big blanket. Lyra is in the middle, and Vae is on the other side of her. I hit play on the movie, and we get to eating the popcorn. Halfway through, there's a jump scare, and Lyra jumps, and hugs me quickly. I hug her back.
"I'm so sorry." She says, laughing.
"It's fine! I needed the hugs anyways." I say, pulling her in tighter.
She snuggles even closer, and we watch the rest of the movie holding each other. When the movie ends, we take a late night walk. It's a very extended extra long walk we take, but that's perfectly fine with all of us. We needed this mental break. We took photos for a memory of first time hanging with Lyra, and you have to see them. I think they're too good not to see.
