Freya made her way down the halls of Fuji City Central Hospital on crutches with only little trouble. After Tae and Frank had returned from Griffs room claiming to have had a good chat with him, Freya decided to give Moon some privacy with her boys.
She had checked in with Eve earlier who was currently being coddled by none other than Mac. She made off better then most but was still down for the count. Mac was at her beck and call getting her water and helping her walk to the bathroom and running about the cafeteria to fix a meal for her.
Ty at least had enough wherewithal to follow Macs lead on behalf of Freya rather than just take up room on her bed and tell her over and over how sorry he was this happened as if it were his fault. She had enough of his overbearing attention and volunteered him to serve Sorian for a while who was laying in a hospital bed with bruises, a concussion, and a few slipped discs in his back.
Freya had a very fine sheet of sweat on her brow when she finally made it to room 103 down the hall. She was no stranger to crutches but it had been sometime since had needed them. She knocked lightly on the door.
A low smokey voice responded, "Come in." She wasn't too surprised to see Val in Skylar's room upon entering. He sat on the side of the bed in a recliner with a brace around his knee and a few cuts on his hands and face.
Seeing her enter he placed his book down and got up helping her maneuver into the room with a, "Please, allow me to assist," and sat her in the opposite recliner. He propped her crutches up against the wall and took his seat again.
"Ever the gentleman," she told him.
His Russian accent was always music to her ears, "For you? Always."
She giggled, "You're too kind," she looked over the prone tanned man laying in the hospital bed, "he's still sleeping?"
Val glanced at Skylar, "They gave him general anesthetic to... I think the word is relocate... his fingers. He should he waking soon."
Freya sat back in her chair crossing her bad leg over the other, "I have no clue if that is the right word but I know what your mean. How are you fairing?"
"Ok... some cuts and stitches, a bum shoulder, and a hairline fracture in my kneecap. Nothing that will put me down for the count."
"Sounds like you got lucky for hitting the side of mountain at top speed. I'm now covered in bruises from the harness and have a fractured ankle from the tornado of gear."
They both laughed at her attempt to make light of their situation which was shitty no matter how one looked at it. The silence that followed wasn't awkward or empty but Freya felt the need to fill it anyway. She didn't think she would have another chance the speak to Val on this again.
She didn't beat around the bush, "He told me you know," she was never one for riddles, "about the two of you."
Val ran his finger through his beard unable to look her in the eye, "I figured. You have very specific stares."
She smiled to diminish the atmosphere, "That is in fact the exact impression I've been trying to make after all these years."
He finally looked at her smiling back, "Congratulations on your success."
"Is it true what you said to him? You sincerely want to be with him?"
He broke sight with her again to look over at Skylar still sound asleep. Val asked, "Are you giving me the 'threatening sibling talk'?" he grinned looking back to her.
"Absolutely," she responded, "I loved him first after all."
Val returned his hand to his face, "It's easy, no?"
