Her fingertips gently tapped on the surface in front of her as if she was bored, and her deep fuschia hair blew idly in the wind from our fan. Perfection in her finest form sat in front of me with the most distant look on her face, almost as if she wanted to be somewhere else. Honey, angellike eyes gazed out into the depths of unknown universes with mystery dancing in the background. God, she was beautiful, but always so gone, like her mind wanted to leave but her heart forced it to stay.
"Amalthea?" I tried gently, as to not disturb her thoughts too suddenly. It seemed to work, for she slowly descended back into reality, and the clouded look in her eyes became bright once more.
She gazed over at me idly, her look holding curiosity and interest. Nothing was said, but I knew that she was silently stating a 'What?' back to me. For a woman normally so social, she was so quiet. I worried about her silence, for it held a certain instability that seemed to throw off her entire demeanor.
"Do... you..." I paused, much to her dismay. Ama didn't like to be kept waiting. She was one of those girls who, when you called her name, you had to say something after that or else she would flip out until you said something. If she didn't believe the answer or didn't like it, she would keep pestering you. It was both endearing and annoying.
"Do I... What? Have gonorrhea, want something to eat, wanna take a---" I interrupted her.
"No, none of those things. I know you don't have gonorrhea." I paused. "Do you...?" She glared at me with a look that could pierce the soul if one wasn't careful.
"Of course I don't. Stop playing around, what were you going to ask?"
As much as I wanted to mess with her by saying 'nothing', the question I had was too persistent to be skirting around.
"How do you feel about me? Do you still like me or am I becoming a burden to you? You're rather distant and quiet lately, and you seem bored somewhat constantly. I'm just curious, and I'm sorry if this offends you. I just need to know." I rambled it all out in one go.
Amalthea fell silent once more, but her fingers ceased their rhythms. Had I irritated her with such a question? No, her face hadn't darkened. It seemed thoughtful and calm for once. Her eyes danced around as the wheels in her brain turned and turned in contemplation. She got up after a long pause, and led me to the living room.
When we got where she wanted to be, Ama gently sat me down on the couch, and sat on my lap while facing me. Her gaze was long, but gentle as she searched me. After what seemed to be forever of her staring into the depths of my mind, she finally spoke.
"Zeiro." She began as my heart climbed to my throat.__Amalthea's POV__
I gazed out of the kitchen window without much thought, my mind ticking away as pointless thoughts spiraled around. Everything seemed too... Quiet. Zeiro paced the kitchen, lost in his own thoughts, and my anxiety got the best of my hands. My fingernails tapped loudly against the wooden surface of our table as the look on his face grew worrisome and aggravated. Yikes. One of my legs started to bounce along with the rhythm of my fingertips, and Zeiro grew more restless.
Just when I was at the peak of worrying irrationally, Zeiro interrupted my thoughts.
"Amalthea?" He asked rather tentatively, as if not to startle me. It worked as I slowly pulled myself down to earth, and shook the fogginess from my brain. My gaze shifted from the window to him effortlessly, and my face twisted into a form of curiosity. He stared at me for a moment before speaking.
"Do you..." Zeiro stopped, which irritated me. I hated being called to with no followup, it pissed me off. It was hard to get my attention, and he knew that.
"Do I what? Have gonorrhea? Want something to eat? Want to take a n--" I was going to say 'nap' before he interrupted me, denying he was going to ask any of that stuff before asking about the gonorrhea. I irritably denied any venereal diseases before he continued.
He seemed so distressed that I felt bad for snapping at him. His emerald gaze was alight with a beautiful fire that danced behind his pupils, and his normally organized curly hair was fluffy and messed up from being so distraught. Zeiro was beautiful, and being in his presence made me feel insignificant at times. My too-poofy, unnaturally dyed hair and dull eyes made me self conscious when measured up to his looks.
"How do you feel about me?" Was all I really caught out of his ramble. He seemed sad, and extremely worried about how I felt about him. My heart cracked a little as my face relaxed in shock. I had to think for a moment so that my answer wasn't mean or insensitive. After a few minutes, I led Zei to the living room to sit down.
"Zeiro," I began, taking a deep breath. "I... Feel... Everything for you." I bit my lip. "You inspire me, and light up my life like nobody else ever has. Whenever I am sad, you sweep me off my feet and remind me that you love me, and when we're angry, we're as passionate as a roaring flame that threatens to burn down to the very foundation of the place where it started." The words seemed to flow out naturally, like a waterfall of love.
"You are someone I care about... Very deeply. I feel comfortable and safe around you, so much so that I let my guard down and let you see the quiet side of me that not even my family has seen before." I admitted quietly.
Zeiro didn't seem satisfied. "You act so different all the time. It worries me."
Did he think I was flaky or two faced? My teeth chewed down on my lip studs worriedly.
"Zeiro, humans are beautifully complex creatures. All of us are so painfully dynamic that there shouldn't be a definition to how we react when happy, sad, or angry. There are so many emotions and gorgeous feelings that make us unique..." I smiled a little.
"I'm quiet around you because I know I can be, I know that my heart doesn't have to be on guard around you, and that you will protect me. You are my rock, the other half of my heart and soul. You and I are..." My hand gently rested on his face as I gazed at him hard, but lovingly.
"You and I are an experience. We are no less than perfect, but no more than flawed. We are as different and strange as the rest of the world around us." I finished gently.__Zeiro's POV__
I didn't... My heart raced as she finished her speech, my hands grasping at hers in complete awe. I had no idea she felt so strongly, that such feelings had been hiding under the surface of her silence all this time. I pulled her in for a kiss, and hugged her as tightly as she could stand.
"I love you too, Amalthea. I'm sorry I asked something like that." I whispered in her ear. She nuzzled my neck and pressed herself against me.
"You shouldn't feel apologetic for asking a question like that. There's nothing to say you're sorry for. I'm glad I got to tell you how I feel." Ama said softly, her hands winding through my annoying ringlets as she smiled.__Amalthea's POV__
We climbed into bed earlier than usual that night and cuddled for a long time. There was a comfortable quietness between us that danced in the darkness that surrounded our presence. No words were exchanged until the sun began to pry his first few rays over the horizon.
"Amalthea, I love you." Zeiro said suddenly. It surprised me, for I was convinced he had fallen asleep hours ago.
I nestled into his side and breathed in his scent, drowning in it's perfection.
"I love you too." I whispered as my eyes fluttered shut for the night.
