"M-ma'am are you really sure it's alright to leave without asking for your father's permission...?" Seishun asked quietly as he followed behind the princess slowly and a bit nervously. The wind blew hard that day, making him have to fix his short blue hair.
"Of course not silly." Hakuei turned around and showed him a large smile on her face. She was full of happiness, leadership, and optimism, "I'll most likely get in trouble... But don't worry, Seishun, I can take the blame for you."
But he only shook his head quickly and said, "I can't let you do that ma'am! You're the princess! I'm just a mere servant... There's no way I would be able to allow you to do such a thing..."
Hakuei watched him a while as he shifted back and forth on his feet anxiously before giggling and saying, "You're too sweet Seishun." She raised her hand out past the long and heavy sleeves of her traditional dress and ruffled his blue hair with a beam.
"Ma'am..." His face turned slightly red as he grew more embarrassed by the second, but he didn't remove her hand. He was fond of his princess, and he, like many others, loved her very dearly.
"But you do know that this would be an unforgivable crime resulting with the punishment of death, right?" Hakuei asked with a smaller smile, showing a bit concern for Seishun.
That's right. The emperor would think that he was kidnapping the princess, or doing some kind of assault on her which would lead to an execution. Seishun, like many other people, wasn't the type who wanted to die. He gulped hard, now debating what he should do and say, "T-then...."
Hakuei grabbed his hand gently and made him sit onto the soft grass next to her. Like usual, she put on a smile and said, "Don't worry, I'm here for you."
"Ma'am... You shouldn't stand up for a small servant like me..." Seishun began to beg a bit, "Please, princess, think of yourself, of your own position."
"My position doesn't matter..." She seemed to say quietly to herself while taking a flower from the ground and twirling it between her fingers. That's right... She was given command and power just from the emperor. Her position, to many, wasn't as important as others who worked their way up the ranks. Seishun looked at her with a worried face, and when Hakuei noticed thus, she only smiled back, "You're not just a small servant, Seishun. You're my friend, aren't you?"
Hearing the words come from the princess herself made Seishun feel warm inside. He always wondered to himself what his princess thought of someone as low as him, even though they had been together for such a long time. He longed to hear the same words from her mouth but thinking it would never happen, he lowered his expectations.
Now, he heard the actually words from Hakuei himself. Seishun stood where he was, looking at her with surprised eyes before nodding, also smiling happily, "Yeah." He agreed.
Hakuei then went on about her wanting to explore some more and unite the world under peace and correct guidance. She said that she liked the flowers that were around her since they didn't see them in their country. While the spoke to Seichun about these things, he felt his heart beat fast and faster with joy and spirit.
A relationship between a servant and princess could never happen. Although Seishun was an amazing swordsman, he wasn't of royal blood, his statue wasn't as weak and he was a few inches shorter than the princess, and he was younger by 3 or 4 years as well. But it didn't matter to him. All he thought about was how dear the princess was to him, and what he would do to be by her side forever.
It made Seishun think a bit actually. Honestly, he loved his princess, but did his princess love him back? She said he was her friend, but only a friend? Was he able to pass those words? Or break all traditions that a man would have to be to marry a princess.
