Kazuha was extremely nervous as he walked onto the stage. He not only was worried about you, but he was worried about the contest itself. Having to create his piece in front of prying eyes made him slightly uneasy.
He sat down in a chair with his name stuck on the back and stared blankly at the piece of paper before him. He was trying to think of some phrases he could use, even though they may deem useless as the topic of the competition has not been announced yet.
Speaking of which, once everyone was settled at their assigned tables, the principal stood up and began to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is an honour to have you here for Creativity Week. It is a special week for students to express their creativity and imagination and also experience competing on an international scale. This competition will be about haikus, a Japanese style poem that calls for the meticulous use of words to tell a story of beauty and grace," he stated, "I will now be announcing the topic for todays competition. The topic will be: Love."
A few people in the audience murmured and some students whistled flirtatiously. Kazuha gulped. He had no experience in this topic whatsoever.
"Contestants, you may begin. You have 30 minutes." The principal said, and the participants immediately began jotting down ideas and phrases. The person that shocked the audience the most was Kazuha, for he sat in his chair and was deep in thought.
"Isn't he just wasting his time? I would start writing if I were him," someone in the crowd whispered.
"Maybe he can't think of what to write about. Love is a very broad subject, after all," someone else replied, "Or maybe he can't think of someone to love? I'll gladly be one of them, he's pretty cute," they giggled.
Kazuha tried to think of someone, but was blanking. And he had already wasted 5 minutes. After concentrating hard, Kazuha's mind could only come up with one answer.
Y/N.
As if a lightbulb went off in his head, he picked up the pen and began writing.
Eyes shining like gems,
Standing in all her beauty,
A courageous soul.
He finished his piece with a flick of his pen and put it down. It was not his best work, but it was good enough.
It may have been hard for him, but he had been denying it for too long.
He loved you, he loved you when the sun set in the horizon and when it rose back up to shine light onto the world. He loved you when you laughed, he loved you when you skipped happily towards him at the beginning of every school day, he loved you when you waited impatiently outside his last class so you could walk home together.
He had loved you in all those moments.
He just never knew if you felt the same.
After being lost in his thought for the rest of the time given, the principal stood up from her seat again.
"Times up folks, now it's time for evaluation. (Random dude's name), please present your piece up front."
After a few contestants presented their pieces, Kazuha heard his name being called.
"Kaedehara Kazuha, please presrnt your piece up front."
Kazuha stood up and he could hear soft whispers in the crowd of how his piece had to be the worst one, since he only spent a few minutes on it. Kazuha shook the voices out of his head and walked up to the front of the stage.
"This piece is meant for a special someone, although she is not here in this room, I hope she can hear this," Kazuha stated with confidence. He then recited his haiku and, to everyone's shock, it was beautiful.
The judges could feel the emotions through Kazuha's light and airy voice, and could practically see how in love he was from his tone. Although few words were used, a story was told with absolute clarity.
Kazuha got a standing ovation, and he bowed politely before stepping off of the platform and leaving out the back.
As the judges needed time to go through the scores, Kazuha took the opportunity to check his phone.
