Ruby kept shaking Max's shoulder softly trying to wake her up.

"Maxi, please. Come back to me." She whispered, her voice an unstable echo as tears started to go softly down her cheeks.

She has lost one best friend. She wasn't prepared to lose another one.

In a span of two days, no less.

Max was there. But wasn't. And that's what scared Ruby to her core. It was as if she was in a trance.

Just like Chrissy.

And if all of their symptoms were connected, similar to Chrissy and Fred's as well, it probably meant that Max and Ruby were next in line to hop on the Vecna Express.

What terrified her even more, was that Max was standing before her in line. Being the next victim.

In the back of her mind, Ruby suddenly heard echoes of a clock ticking.

Tick.

Tock.

Tick.

Tock.

An image of an old grandfather clock appeared in front of her eyes for just a moment before disappearing when she blinked.

Ruby decided to ignore it, though. She was probably imagining stuff.

"Max, come on." Dustin's voice was heard over her thoughts, his worried tone bringing her back.

Ruby decided to keep whatever she thought she discovered to herself, not sure at all if she even connected the dots correctly. But what was most important right now was Max. They were helpless but needed to somehow figure out how to wake her up from the current state she was in.

"Max?" Steve whispered, trying to wake the girl up too.

"Maxi, please. I beg you." Ruby whimpered through her tears, forgetting about her temporary episode and solely focusing on Max. "I know you can snap out of this. Come back to me."

And in a split second, Max woke up.

She gasped loudly, panting and looking around confused.

"Holy shit!" Ruby cried out, hugging the redhead tightly. "Max, thank god!"

"Max, are you okay?" Steve rushed to her side and put a hand on her shoulder.

"What the-" Max whispered. "I was just in the hallway-"

"What are you talking about?" Dustin asked, confusion in his voice.

"You were sitting here this whole time."
