"Why does school have to be so stressful?" I ask running my hand through my hair and sitting at the table.
"I don't know but you have to go." Amy, my mum, said placing a plate full if food in front of me.
"Why. What happened today?" I just sighed as she sat in the seat opposite me.
"Oh y'know teachers being idiots, people trying to figure out ways to cheat in the exams.. The normal stuff." My mum chuckled slightly and took a bite of her food.
"You only have a month left and then you're gone."
"Yeah, but then I have to move to America. You know this." She sighs slightly and looks up at me.
"Yeah, I know. But you know if I could keep you here I would do in a heartbeat, but we can't change what the court has decided."
Now for background information. I'm Christina , sixteen years old and live with my mum. My dad died a few months ago, and he wanted me to move in with a family friend, so I can get away where I am currently living. My mum took it to court, but as you can see.. The court agreed with my dad. So when I finish my final exam, I am moving to America."You say that, but how much have you fought for it? Okay you went to court to get it over ruled, but since that, what have you done?" I hated the idea of moving, especially because that meant leaving my mates, but it seemed that my mum wants me gone, especially after she got engaged to some rich C.E.O of a business in London.
"Look Chrissy. Please try and seem a bit excited. You've always wanted to go to America." I put down the food I had in my hand.
"Yes, but for a holiday... Not forever! Just think about me, I'm leaving everything I know and love. My friends, family and my home. It's fine for you. You're going to be married soon most probably starting a new family not thinkong for a moment about me, or grieving for your dead husband!" I said glaring at my mum. An awkward silence fell over us and neither of us looked away from each other. My ears pricked up at the sound of the door.
"Your beloved fiancé is home." I said quietly picking up my plate and taking it up to my room.
"Hiya Christina." Adam said closing the door. I gave him a weak smile.
"Hello. It's pizza tonight." I said continuing to go upstairs. I entered my room and locked the door.
DING! I checked my phone and smiled. Since I was moving to America I decided to make some friends online who lived in America.[Text] Toby: Hi Christina. Is this a bad time? It's midday here.
(Received: 17:30)
[Text]Christina: Its an amazing time. Brilliant timing as usual.
(Sent: 17:31)
[Text] Toby: Lemme guess arguing again? X
(Received: 17:33)
[Text]Christina: Yep. All my mum can think of is herself. I swear she can't wait to get rid of me. X
(Sent: 17:34)
[Text] Toby: Good God. Hey, I was wondering if you're up for a phone call? I have the money to pay the bill so if you're up for it... X
(Delivered 17:35)
[Text]Christina: Of course I would love a phone call. X
(Sent: 17:37)I put my phone down and less than a minute later my phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I said softly
"Hello there." Toby said, his accent is to die for.
"May I say, I love your accent." I said feeling slightly silly for not having anything else to start a conversation on. Toby chuckled slightly.
"Why thank you. I don't get that one often. But to be honest, I love your accent aswell." I blushed slightly and burried my face in my hand.
"Thank you, so looking forward to me invading your habitat in a month?" I said with a laugh.
"God, what is you English invading places already inhabited, eh? No but in all seriousness I can't wait." I smiled
"Well you can talk about invading already inhabited places... And who was it who inhabited America even though the English where already there?"
"Well, isn't someone educated. Alright, that is true... But still we have- no wait that's not right..." Toby cleared his throat and laughed nervously. We stayed on the phone for roughly 4 hours until I had a knock on my door.
"Hey Toby, I've got to go now. I'm wanted by family, talk later."
"Alright girly. Talk soon." I hung up the phone and unlocked the door to see Adam standing there with extra pizza.
"Erm, I didn't know if you wanted any more pizza." I smiled slightly.
"I would love some more pizza. Thank you." I said politely taking the pizza and taking it to my bed.
"Chris.. Can I ask who that was on the phone?" Adam asked leaning on the door frame.
"It's a friend I've made who lives in America. He lives in the same area that I'm moving to." Adam smiled.
"Do you like him?" I frowned slightly.
Do I like him? I mean I've been talking to him for at least a month, and I guess I do slightly like him.
"Yes I guess I do." Adam chuckled slightly.
"Well that's good then. I'll leave you to eat your pizza. I'm watching films in 10 minutes if you would care to join." I just smiled and thanked him. For him being a C.E.O for a big company in London, he seems to be a cool guy, and not one of these stuck up snobs who dress in the expensive suits and feown down at everyone.I put down the plate of pizza on my bedside table and texted Toby.
[Text]Christina: Hiya. I won't be able to talk again tonight, I'll talk tomorrow. Xx
(Sent: 21:00)
[Text]Toby: Damn. Fine I'll talk tomorrow. See ya xx
(Received: 21:01)
I put my phone down and laied in bed thinking about the next month of my life.
