Chapter 23

Beau’s P.O.V

I slowly opened my eyes and focused them on my surroundings, the cold white walls of the hospital waiting room. I looked beside me to Skip with his head in his hands.

‘I must have fallen asleep, have you heard anything?’ I asked Skip, remembering the crash.

‘Luke, James and Becca went for a check up and still no news on Jai and Lily, I’m such a fucking idiot’ he sighed. I gave him a half smile and softly patted his back before going off to find the others. I followed the turns of the corridor then found a smaller waiting area, leading into a small room. Sitting on one of the chairs was Becca.

‘BEAU!’ Becca squealed a little as she ran up to me, bringing me into a hug.

‘Are you okay?’ I cupped her head in my hands.

‘We’re fine, just a few cuts and bruises’ James replied. I sighed with relief as James joined our hug. Luke soon came out of room holding a bunch of tissues to stop the bleeding from his head.

‘omg are you okay bro?’ I asked Luke.

‘Where’s Lily? Where’s Jai?’ he stuttered, ignoring my question. I lead him back into the waiting room as the 5 of us waited for some sort of news on Jai and Lily.

‘I’m such a fucking idiot’ Skip repeated, like he’d been doing for the past hour. No one could reply, we all knew he was right.

‘Are you the relatives of Lily Green and Jai Brooks?’ A nurse came over and asked. I stood up and nodded.

‘I’m Jai’s older brother, yes’

The nurse nodded and started to lead me away.

‘Wait, can’t I come too?’ Luke called back. The nurse sighed but eventually nodded then followed the two of us to the room where Lily and Jai were. Jai sleepily looked over to us, he was very badly bruised and had stitches on his head. I gasped at the state he was in, I’d never seen him like this before. Luke rushed over to Lily who was still un conscious and connected to a drip.

‘Is Lily okay? Please tell me Lily is okay?’ Jai asked me in a weak voice.

‘During the crash Lily hit her head, we have kept her asleep so the brain can heal before the rest of her body catches up.’ The nurse smiled, unplugging some machines from beside Jai’s bed.

‘Well, when will she be awake again? What about the baby?’ Luke asked as tears started to threaten.

‘Later tonight, hopefully.’

‘But the baby? What about the baby?’

‘We’re not too sure about the baby yet’ the nurse spoke softly before leaving us alone. Luke stared at Lily, softly stroking her hand, he looked so lost. Jai sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the bed before joining Luke at Lily’s side. I watched them gaze at Lily, both of them staring at her with such care.

Lily’s P.O.V

I woke up to see everyone, Becca, Jai, Luke, James, Skip, Beau, Gina and a nurse all crowding round me.

‘Give her some space’ someone spoke. I rubbed my eyes but I immediately felt a severe pain in my head.

‘W-where am I? What’s going on?’ I stuttered once I figured out I was in hospital.

‘We were in a car crash Lily’ Jai replied from next to me.

‘Can I please have a word with Lily alone?’ the nurse asked. Gina nodded and lead everyone out, Jai hung by my side but the nurse insisted I was alone. She unplugged some machines from me and pulled up a chair next to my bed as I struggled to sit up.

‘Now Lily, you understand you were in a car crash, yes?’ I nodded as the nurse started to speak. ‘Well, you and Jai, we presume, were sitting in the back on the left side of the car where the crash was most impacted, that’s why you two were injured the most?’

‘I think so, I don’t really remember much about it’ I whispered.

‘Well, when the car hit...’ the nurse paused, trying to find the right words.

‘What?’ my voice wavered as tears started to fill my eyes.

‘The crash made you hit your mid body and squashed it, which caused you to lose your baby... I’m so sorry Lily.’ She said softly, trying her best comfort me.

I stared into the distance, unable to speak. I had no words, words couldn’t explain the different emotions flooding my mind. For some reason I felt relieved but I was the mother of that baby and even though it was a mistake it was something to hold on to, something for me to be responsible for, for once. Now that was gone.

The nurse finished taking some tests before she said, after staying the night, I could go home in the morning.

‘I’m not going home’ Jai insisted when everyone was saying their goodbyes.

‘It’s only one night, you don’t need to stay’ I smiled at his sweetness but he shook his head and squashed up on the bed once everyone had left. I rested my head on his chest as he interlocked our legs.

‘I love you Lily, honestly I do’ he whispered.

I smiled; he hadn’t said that in so long.

‘I’m sorry’

‘We’ve moved on from that remember?’ he sighed.

I curled up into his chest and wrapped my arms around his torso but he pulled me away and brought his face down to mine.

‘Wha-?’ but before I could finish he gently placed his lips on mine, passionately kissing me with so much care and meaning. Exactly like our first kiss those few weeks ago.

‘Let’s start again. I’m Jai Brooks, would you like to borrow my phone to call home?’ he grinned, rein acting when we first met.

‘Hey I’m Lily, yes, that would be great thank you’ I giggled, playing along. He got out his phone but instead, clicked on the camera and put it in front of us.

‘What are you doing?’ I squirmed, hiding my face. ‘I’m recovering from a crash you dick’

‘We both are, now smile or I’m going to look lonely’ he laughed, putting the camera more in my face. He managed to take a picture of the two us and uploaded it to instagram, making the caption ‘looking after my girl <3.’ I rolled my eyes and turned over as he spooned me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

‘Ow’ I winced, adjusting my position.

‘Sorry baby’ Jai kissed my cheek before I fell asleep in the arms of someone who really did love me. Someone I didn’t deserve.

Becca’s P.O.V

‘You can stay at ours tonight, love, it would feel weird being without Lily’ Gina offered once we got back to their house, it was coming up to 1 am and everyone was practically falling asleep.

‘Katy’s there but she won’t know the difference. Thank you’ I smiled as me and the boys piled into the house, James and Skip stayed the night too.

‘Becca can sleep on the couch, James, you can stay in Jai’s bed and Skip you can share Beau’s’ Gina suggested as she put the kettle on. Beau raised his eyebrows at me and I giggled following him into his room.

‘Oi, what are you doing? I thought I was sleeping Beau’s bed?’ Skip laughed as he tackled me down onto the bed.

‘Fuck off faggot!’ Beau joined in and before I knew it I had James on top me too.

‘Omg can I please just go to sleep... in my boyfriends bed?’ I laughed, pushing them all off me.

‘Whoah we don’t want all the details’ James joked as he fell to floor. I rolled my eyes and gave him ‘the look.’

‘Is Luke okay?’ Skip asked, realising he didn’t join James in the pile on.

‘He will be, eventually’ Beau sighed.
