"It's only for one night, Lisa."

Irene held up a baby pink cashmere sweater and eyed herself in the mirror, twisting her mouth into a frown and tossing it into a pile laying on the bed in front of Lisa's seated form.

"In a haunted house, you forgot to mention. I'm not sure I would have said yes if I'd known." Lisa fell on her back when Irene tossed her L.A. Laker sweatshirt over her head.

"It will be fun. Rosé and Jisoo are thinking about coming with us."

Lisa moaned, pulling the shirt off her face. "Jisoo's the worst. You know that, right? She's terrified of stuff like this."

"Well, then that will make it more entertaining. I'd love to see an uptight newly minted lawyer lose her shit."

Lisa couldn't hold back her anxiety and began waving her hand at Irene to get her attention. "Oh, no, you don't. I promise you. It will make it a thousand times worst."

Irene held up Lisa's green plaid flannel shirt and then the purple one, tossing it aside and deciding on the first one, and laid it out next to Lisa's favorite jeans and black henley.

"I can't believe you. It's a free trip. Overnight in a cool old house with a somewhat questionable history. Here look."

Irene fished through her purse, pulled out a brochure, and handed it to Lisa.

Lisa reached for glasses and flipped the paper open, and began to read out loud:

Congratulations on winning an all-expense paid vacation for one day and night at one of the most haunted homes in America for you and three of your friends. This ancient beauty, built in the latter part of the nineteen century, The Gray Mansion, once occupied by the late R. J. Gray and family, whose mark on the early historical city of Los Angeles became a seminal home in the state.

The mansion once hosted grand parties and dignitaries from around the world until the cost of repair, upkeep, and distance to downtown Los Angeles caused the City of Los Angeles to sell the property to a private party. The owners have remained anonymous and will allow only one special night a year to share in the home's distinctive surroundings.

Welcome to what might become one of the unique nights of your life and relive what it was like at the turn of the century.

Warnings and disclaimers: Due to the recent sightings of Lady Gray on the second floor, please access at your own risk.

Below that was a graph of levels of terror, Lisa supposed. The ground floor is the safest level, indicating a sunny yellow color. The kitchen, ballroom, and parlors were burnt orange—the basement was blood-red, as well as the attic. The second floor was a dull gray, and the only spot in the house that was an ominous pitch black was the room at the end of the hall.

"Oh, boy, that doesn't look sinister at all. No way will they agree to go with us."

Irene finally settled on a layered look, a baby blue low-cut tank top and cobalt blue zip-up sweater with a hood that would bring out the color in her eyes. Irene's phone buzzed with an incoming text making her grin. She held it up for Lisa to see. Jisoo sent a bunch of emojis in a Halloween theme with an enthusiastic, Mwahaha. Hell yes!

"Well, here's your answer."

"Did you show them this?" The cover of the brochure had a picture of the old mansion. "Hell, this looks just like the Munster's home."
