{Chapter 35}
Next morning, Melinda was woken up by a small hand shaking her shoulder. She groaned lightly before slowly opening her eyes to see Jack.
"Jack? What are you doing up?" Melinda asked in a whisper
She was confused on why the boy woke her up and not his dad. Jack held a smile on his face as if he didn't care what time it was in the morning.
He whispered, "I want to make Dad a good breakfast since he got to stay home."
Melinda smiled lightly before getting up so the two can head to the kitchen to make breakfast for them. She then began to think of what to make as she looked in the cabinets and fridge.
"What about pancakes?" Jack suggested with a shrug
Melinda stopped looking in the fridge and turned to him as she pointed at him, "Smart thinking, little man. Why don't you go wash your hands and we can get started?"
Jack smiled and ran to the bathroom to wash his hands, while Melinda began taking stuff out to cook. Once Jack came back, they began cooking, well Melinda was. During them cooking, Aaron woke up and looked to the spot where Melinda slept and she wasn't there. He frowned confused and threw the blanket off him as he got up. He walked over to Jack's room and saw he wasn't in his bed either. Aaron scratched his head confused about where they went, before he heard Jack giggling in the kitchen. Aaron went towards the kitchen to the sight before him, Melinda flipping pancakes with his shirt still on, while Jack was on the counter with a safe distance away from the stove. He smiled as he leaned against the doorway with his arms crossed.
Jack looked over and saw his dad and beamed, "Daddy!"
Melinda looked over and saw her boyfriend as she helped Jack down off the counter. Once Jack was back on the ground, he ran full force towards his father and hugged him. Aaron chuckled and hugged him back, before he pulls away to walk towards his girlfriend. She flipped one last pancake, before turning the stove off to turn towards him. He wrapped his arm around her waist to pull her close to him, making her gasp at how close their faces were to one another.
"Hi." Aaron whispered with a small smile
Melinda chuckled lightly and whisper back, "Hi."
Aaron leaned in to kiss her when two little hands pried them apart, "No!"
Jack was the one to pry them apart from the other as he didn't want to see them kiss. Aaron ruffled his son's hair, not before bringing his hand down to cover his son's eyes so he can lean in and kiss his girlfriend. Melinda chuckled at this as she shook her head, before she began making plates. Aaron placed his hands on her waist.
