Zalas
The name rang in Kira's mind like a death knell.
Zalas-the demigod who created the vampires. The same being who had violated the Immortal. The same Zalas who had poured evil into the veins of the world itself.
This had to be a hallucination.
It chuckled again, the sound scraping against her bones.
"Welcome to hell."
Kira stopped breathing. "How did I get here?"
The creature drifted away from her. Lava, if it could be called that, rose from beneath them, molten rivers twisting and knitting together until they formed a massive throne. Zalas seated himself upon it like a king claiming his crown.
"Every evil on earth is tethered to this place," he said calmly. "We are all connected. This is where they end."
"Why am I here?"
His head tilted, amused.
"You are braver than most who have faced me."
She lifted her chin, trembling but resolute.
"I need an answer."
"Unknowingly, Kira, you reached here yourself," he said, rising with an unnatural grace. "I merely pulled you in. And I have waited... a million lifetimes for this moment."
Before she could react, an invisible force yanked her toward him. His fingers brushed her cheek. She tried to turn away and he laughed.
"The world's redemption... and mine," he proclaimed.
"I am not-"
"There is so much you do not know, healer," he interrupted. "But hear this."
His eyes blazed like the fire around them.
"A time will come when hell opens. When evil is unleashed upon the world. These are the End Days. The fate of everything... rests on your shoulders."
She swallowed, trembling.
"But know this, Chosen One." He leaned closer, his darkness pressing into her skin. "You will not win. Heaven and Earth will fall. You will perish. I will return, and there will be no God."
Her heart slammed violently against her ribs.
"Tell your God to be ready. Until then, know that I will be seeing you very soon."
Something cold and relentless wrapped around her. In an instant, she was ripped from the abyss.
Kira gasped.
The hospital came back into focus. Her heart thundered. Her lungs screamed.
I'll be seeing you soon.
Heaven and Earth will fall.
There shall be no God.
She clutched her head, those words echoing mercilessly. To say she wasn't afraid was stupidity, she was meant to be afraid. Zalas's prophecy gnawed at her soul.
When she finally looked up, the world was still frozen.
She thought the world would resume as the seer couldn't control the pause for long, but shockingly, even the seer was frozen. Which meant...
