Not much else happened before everyone returned. However, once Glenn was back, Peter and I were attached to his hip. He couldn't shake us off. Thankfully he didn't try. They had brought a new guy back with them too. His name was Rick and he was Carl's dad. Lori's husband as well I suppose. I was confused because I thought Shane was her husband.
However, Merle was not back. Edith and Danny were sad and angry and with Daryl still out hunting, they couldn't be given a lot of parental comfort. I knew what it was like to lose someone. I didn't want them to be experiencing that pain. The only other good thing they achieved on their mission was scavenging more food. Carol and Lori got to work preparing it for dinner. Everyone was excited to finally have something besides canned beans and fish to eat.
"Have you both bathed yet?" Glenn asked us. We shook our heads. I didn't want a bath. Nevertheless, Glenn forced us into the RV and helped shower us down. I had actually begun taking my own baths and showers before the monsters showed up, but Glenn seemed so happy to take care of us that I didn't want to shut him down. Maybe in a few months, I can re-open the idea of self-bathing.
"Were there a lot of the bad people?" Peter inquires.
Glenn's face shifted as he ran the bar of soap over Peter's body. "Yeah. There were a lot of them. But we're okay."
I sat down by the shower, trying my best to not ruin the towel hat Glenn made on my head. "But Merle died...""No, he didn't. Don't worry about that, okay?" We both nodded and we dropped it for the night.
The next day brought other events. Daryl had returned from his hunting trip with only a string of squirrels. Edith and Danny ran up to him and told him everything, including Merle's lack of presence.
"Where is my brother?" Daryl yelled as he looked around our camp. His face was red and his chest heaving. Peter and I held onto each other as we stayed clear of the chaos. Everyone in the camp was tense. Especially those who had left Merle behind. Glenn forced us back into the tent so that we would be safe if a fight broke out. One never did, though.
An hour later, we were saying goodbye once again to Glenn. He had to go back with the other adults to look for Merle. I didn't want him to leave and neither did Peter. But Glenn always comes back. He will be okay. At least, that's what I kept saying to myself.
