It's Tricky- Run-D.M.C

Jinx Wattson-

Emmy and I had finally arrived at the gymnasium. First hour had ended about ten minutes ago. We have what our school calls the 'Fall Spirit Assembly', at the start of every October the entire school gathers and coaches talk about the upcoming sports seasons. Cheerleaders cheer and the people running for student council do their first campaign speeches.

Emmy was rambling on about something. Probably a new book she bought and finished. I was listening, asking a few questions now and then. Mostly in my own thoughts, but I was drawn out of them with something like a raindrop hitting my head. As if I was on co-pilot my hand reached out. More raindrops hit. Strangely, the forecast said that today was supposed to be sunny and warm, and a zero percent chance of rain. Was the forecast wrong? Looking up, the sky was gray with large rain clouds gathering above the school. The sun was out of sight. There was no wind so far today, but almost as if the universe was reading my mind a strong gust of wind came. Almost knocking me and Emmy over.

We looked at each other and we both started running. Heading straight to the gym. We were only about two feet away when it started pouring rain down. We got a little soaked. Stepping into the large brick building I threw my back against the wall gasping for air. Emmy laughed a breathy laugh. I slid down the wall until my butt hit the reasonably sized black mat below me. I pulled my legs up to my chest and looked at Emmy. We started laughing.

The bell rang soon after signaling to find our seats in the stands. The headmaster did his usual speech, welcoming the new students and telling the older students to take care of them. Blah, blah, bah. It was the same every single year. Sitting at the top of the stands had some perks, like being able to lean my head back on the wall. I closed my eyes and somehow took a nap.

I woke up to Emmy poking my cheeks. Her eyes pointed to the gym floor. Rubbing my eyes I looked down. The cheerleaders were coming out.

Waving their pom poms and running into their positions. ''It's Tricky'' by Run-D.M.C started playing. I was hypnotized by their movements. They were in almost perfect sync. Unknowingly, my body moved forward as if I was going to get a better view.

I was looking for the one person I actually care about on the team. Artemis. She looked amazing, her moves look graceful and effortless. But, her eyes and body language. Something was off, something was going on.

I'm determined to figure it out.
