✨(Ps/ the beginning is basically just the kidnapping but with more details)✨
_______All day, Tommy had an eerie feeling. He couldn't quite put his thumb on it, but it felt like he was being watched. Maybe he still just wasn't used to working with people.
It was nice having people to watch his back, but he still didn't quite know how to work as part of a team. Every time he caught a glimpse of Phil, flying a little ways above him on grey wings ready to literally swoop in if the need arose, and every time Technoblade was behind him guarding his back instead of a wall, there was a moment of confusion as he remembered his alliance.
He had only ever worked with other heroes before, and even then only for big battles. Dream preferred that he didn't make friends in the hero tower. He said it was because he only needed him, George and Sapnap, and Tommy never argued with his decisions. The change was definitely for the better. It meant that he came home with much fewer injuries to bandage. It meant he had actual friends to go home with. It meant he had a flock.
The term had come to him as Phil preened his wings, concerned at the damage. He wasn't ready to tell them anything yet, so declined their offers of medical checkups. The bruises on his ankles and wrists from the ropes were fading slowly, but the scars along his back from the tests of 'pain tolerance' and 'endurance' would probably stay forever, as would the unhealthy state of his wings.
Under the care of his new friends, he was gradually gaining back the weight he lost from his insufficient diet and recovering slowly from his previous state.
The worst injuries were the mental ones, the way he still flinched when Wilbur or Phil tried to hug him or ruffle his hair. After the first few times, they noticed (of course) and asked strangely politely if he had any boundaries with touch.
He was too surprised to lie on the spot, confirming what they had partly gathered by themselves already.
"I don't really like when you guys move too fast or touch my wings without saying anything."
Their worried faces made him think he'd said too much but no, they assured him they understood and didn't pry. Maybe the lack of this sudden closeness was the reason he felt so strange. Techno had rushed off a few minutes ago to help Wilbur and Phil with some hero fight.
Tommy was left to patrol alone, which left him feeling strangely lonely and uneasy. As he walks over the tightly packed roofs of the simple concrete apartments, he wonders what happened to his old dwelling, now that he basically lives at Phil's house. He didn't really care, considering that it was shit anyway. It was tiny, his landlord was a dick and the walls were paper thin. It was all he could afford with the wage of a sidekick under Dream.
He would have quit, probably should have quit, but he was pushed on by a need to find Deo. He knew deep down that it would probably never be fulfilled, but he never gave himself time to actually consider that in depth. Eventually, he was in too deep to try backing out.
