"Charlie you twat!" You said as you turned to look at your best friend since playgroup.
You two were in Set 1 Maths. It was Lesson 6 on a dark Monday evening. He had drawn a smiley face on your work, right next to an answer to a question.
Charlie looked at you with a large grin on his face. "I thought you didn't care about stuff like that, y/n!" he laughed.
"I don't, you knob. Not when it's like, on the corner of the page or something!" you said, rather loudly, and then followed it with a sigh.
Charlie gets serious all of a sudden. It seems he can tell you're upset. "Are you okay, y/n?" he asked. "Yeah, fine." you said, in a flat tone, hiding what you were truly thinking. "You can tell me anything, love." He very rarely calls you 'love', only when something seems to be wrong, and he's worried about you.
The night before, you went to go meet up with your then-boyfriend. You decided you were going to break things off with him. You went into Welshpool and spotting him kissing another girl on the lips outside of Premier. He saw you, however he didn't even bother to walk away from the girl and talk to you. He just stayed there, trying not to swallow this girl who you barely knew. She was in X band and you were in Y. As you were walking away, a couple of heavy tears fell from your eyes. On the other side of the road was Charlie, who came over to talk to you. He repeatedly asked you to tell him what had happened, but you didn't tell him because you didn't know how much you could trust him. Surprisingly, he was really supportive and kind. He walked you home, and one thing led to another, and you realised that you were in love with him.
After class, you decided to break the news to him. "Charlie, I can't lie, I've been really upset since last night." you said, quietly, tears beginning to stream down your face. "What happened last night??" he asked, and he carried on, saying "I mean, like, you don't have to uh, tell me, but-" "I found out boyfriend was cheating." you said. There was a moment of silence, and then he said "Oh my god, y/n. That's terrible. You don't... you don't deserve that at all. You deserve way better. I promise, love." He gave you a hug, which was a lot more comforting than your ex-boyfriend's hugs. Despite being friends for basically forever, you two rarely hugged.
As you were about to walk home, he said, "Do you want to come on my bus? You... you don't have to, but I want to make you feel a little better." Wiping tears from your eyes, a quiet "Sure.." can be heard from your mouth. He smiles at you, and you get onto the bus with him.
