I shifted in Cokes bed, reaching my arm out to lay it across her. But my arm landed on nothing but sheets. I felt around a little more then opened my eyes sitting up. Coke wasn't in the bed. She must have gotten up already. I'd reach over to the little desk thingy Coke had next to her bed and grabbed my voice box. I'd blink slightly, snapping it around my neck and messing around with it until I liked the pitch.
Yawning, I pushed the covers off of my legs and slid off of the bed. I walked to the door of the room which was slightly cracked open and let a sliver of light inside. Pushing the door open and walking out down to the kitchen, I heard the sound of the TV.
I'd walk into the kitchen, hoping to find something to eat. I opened the cupboard and pulled out a random cereal and grabbed a bowl. Setting them both on the counter, I'd open the box of cereal and pour it into the bowl. After that I put the cereal back in the cupboard and walked to the fridge. Pulling the fridge open and glancing inside I grabbed the milk and closed the fridge. I opened it and walked to the bowl on the counter and poured the milk inside. Then I'd put the milk back into the fridge. Walking to a drawer and opening it I would grab a spoon. I'd then walk back and grab the bowl of cereal and walk to the living room.
Coke was sitting on the couch and was wearing baggy baseball shorts with bandages covering her chest and arms. I'd sigh, walking over and sitting next to her. Coke seemed to be focussed on the TV and didn't notice me. I looked at the TV to see what she was watching. It was a news report that involved a new virus that may spread around.
"A new deadly virus has been spreading around the city next to us. First seen inside of Northway Hospital, the people infected seem to have blackened skin. Their eyes and mouths leak a strange black liquid and anyone who comes in contact with it will start to have the same symptoms. We don't know where it started, but we do know when."
I looked over to Coke and saw her messing with her hands. She stared at the TV. An unreadable face.
"It seems to have started spreading after a new patient entered the hospital. We have no clue who they are, but we do have a small clip of some soldiers who were there to help." The TV said.
It clipped so someone in a green camo uniform with grey skin and darker, metallic hair.
"Hey- what?? Who are you??! This is a restricted area!" They'd scream.
"We only have a few questions we want you to answer."
"Only two, make them snappy." The person said, crossing their arms.
"What's happening to Northway Hospital?"
"Dumb question... Jackson, answer this while I file some papers."
Another man appeared and smiled sweetly.
"Howdy! I'll be glad to answer your question. We think it's a terrorist attack going on." Jackson said.
"Can you stop it?"
"Well, we can sure try..!" He'd respond with a smile.
There was an explosion heard in the background and they all jumped looking at the hospital. There was a giant explosion on the side of the 4th floor.
"JACKSON, WE HAVE TO GO! NOW!" the person screamed, running to the entrance of the hospital.
"SHIT!" Jackson screamed picking up a gun and running to follow the other.
"This was footage that was just released public of the event that happened about a month ago. We are still unsure what happened inside of the hospital." The TV spoke.
I'd casually eat my cereal, watching the TV.
"Viewer discretion is advised. Trigger warning for violence, blood and death."
I smiled slightly.
"Here is what we found inside the hospital."
The TV showed pictures of doctors and patients laying on the floor. Dead. Blood was smeared on the walls and so was this weird black goo. It showed more pictures and soon came to one of a hallway full of black figures. Once zoomed in we could see more features. Doctors and patients were secreting a black goo from their eyes and mouth and their skin has turned dark. They were all dead.
"This is what is believed to happen if you have BPV, or Black Pearl Virus. We are not sure what is going on with it today, but we hope to find out soon."
"Oh, hey Peps." Coke said, looking at me.
I nodded slightly, still watching the TV.
The TV switched channels. I turned to look at Coke and she'd set down the remote sighing.
"I was watching that." I'd say.
"Now you're watching this." Coke said, looking at the TV.
She changed the channel to a cartoon network. I shrugged, watching the cartoons with her as I ate my cereal.
"Hey, you eat breakfast yet?" I asked, munching on the cereal.
"Nah. Not hungry." Coke said.
"Here. Can't eat it all." I'd say, swallowing another spoonful of cereal then giving Coke the bowl.
It had about a quarter of cereal left in it.
"I don't really need it..." She'd say.
"Eat." I said, looking at her with a firm glare.
She'd look at me and smiled awkwardly. Coke then looked down at the bowl of cereal and started to slowly eat it while looking back at the TV.
I looked at the clock to see what time it was because the windows were blocked out with thick curtains. The time was 12:34 pm.
"Oh. Guess I shouldn't have gotten cereal." I'd say.
"You're fine." Coke said, sitting back into the couch.
"You still tired?" I asked.
"A little. But I shouldn't be ruining my schedule." She'd reply.
"Coke. You're going to make me force you to sleep, aren'tcha." I'd say, looking at her.
She wasn't listening. She was focused on watching the cartoon. Which was fine.
I got up from the couch, ruffling Cokes hair and walking off to my room.
"Hollar of you need anything!" I'd say, then walked back down the hallway.
I walked down the hallway until I reached my room. Yawning, I flicked on the light switch and stretched. My legs moved towards my bed and I flopped onto it. Grabbing one of my pillows and snuggling my face into it. I'd then grab my phone from under my pillow and look at it, unlocking and scrolling through it.
I sat on the couch and continued to eat the last of the cereal. I'd watch the TV as I did. And sure, this is a cartoon made for kids, but it makes me laugh. Finishing the cereal and drinking some of the leftover milk in it, I'd set it on the coffee table in front of me. I'd then lean to my left and grab a blanket that was sitting on the couch and wrap it around myself.
Getting comfy and snuggling into the blankets, I'd yawn, feeling my eyes drift slightly.
Watching my favorite cartoon... In my own house on the couch cuddled in warm blankets.... The best feeling I've had in a while.
