When the final bell rang for school, Marie made her way towards the gym doors. Steve however caught up to her and grabbed her arm.
"Hey, saw you with Munson earlier. What's going on there?" He asks her and she looks over to Steve, and shakes her arm from his hand.
"He's giving me a ride to work, which does not concern you." She tells him, and for the first time Steve sees his best friend drifting away from him.
"Marie, he's a freak. It does concern me when my best friend is suddenly all buddy-buddy with the freak." He tells her, and she coldly chuckles.
"He's not a damn freak, okay? He's someone you've picked on for years all because he dresses differently, listens to different music than you, and has long hair. If anyone here is the freak it's you." She then turns around and continues her way to the gym doors.
Eddie was still standing there, he had his head down and looked around before he saw her. He smiles lightly at her, and she gives a quick one back.
"Everything okay?" Eddie asks her, and she shakes her head.
"Steve and I argued, and I feel bad about what I said to him." She says to him, for some reason she felt very comfortable around Eddie. He had this energy about him that allowed her to confide in him.
"Well, maybe getting your mind off of everything will make you forget argument." He suggests and Marie smiles sadly.
"Yeah, okay. What were your questions earlier?" She asks him, they exit the school and he holds the door open for her. Once they're both outside Eddie leads her to his van.
"One, where did you hear that I was the game master of Hellfire?" He asks, and she chuckles.
"The yearbook gave you away. Dustin, which is my little brother, was looking through it with me and saw your picture and was excited. He really likes D&D, so he thought it was cool they had a club for it in high school." She says to him, and he chuckles.
"Hopefully it's still there after I graduate, for kids like your brother." Eddie says to her, they've arrived at the van and he opened the passenger door for her and she thanks him quickly before getting in.
Eddie shuts the door, and makes his way around the vehicle. Marie looks around the van, looking in the back there were no seats, but a blanket was laid down. The vehicle also smelled of pot, and Marie chuckles at the smell.
"What's funny?" Eddie asks as he gets in the van, and Marie point around the van.
"My boss would kill me to know I was with the biggest dope dealer in town." Marie says to him, and he ducks his head down as he starts the vehicle.
"You gonna rat me out?" He asks as he pulls out from the school parking lot. Marie shakes her head.
"No, Hopper can get over himself. You probably do it to make some money, and I don't want to take probably your only source of income from you." Marie says, she was being honest and Eddie nodded his head.
"Why'd you take an internship with the Hawkins Police?" He asks her, and she smiles.
"My mom watches all the cop shows you know? I usually do my homework in the living room, so I would end up watching them with her. It was intriguing to me how they worked, and when I was offered a list of internships. I chose the one that seemed the most me." Marie tells him, and he hums in response.
"Honestly, it does seem like something you would do. I know we've only known each other for like a day, but you just seem like the kind of person to want justice for the people you believe deserve it." He tells her, and she smiles looking over to him.
