Chapter 1

The Year is 1920

Swaying and spinning around the brightly lit ballroom,It's patrons laughed and celebrated.Couples celebrating their marriage or engagement,big business men in their suits celebrated the spectacular prophets of that month or the uniting of there companies. Then some celebrated just because they could.Then you had the few onlookers, some of good intention and not in the celebratory mood.But with the good also comes the bad,the onlookers with no good intentions worked in the shadows or should I say with them,making deals and making unlawful prophet.The bootlegers and the mafia leaders thrived in the cover of darkness.My mother always told me since I was young to never make deals with shadows or the rich because they will always win no matter what.But sense I work as a waitress for the Cerulean Palace Hotel I would have to make my way into the darkness and serve, when I have to go over there those are the times I truly fear for my life.Men of the shadows leering and lurking always ready to find a reason to make you make deals with them and sell your soul.Then you had the men and women in mafia business they were just as dangerous as the shadow men even though they were humans.Both of them will put you in your grave at a young age if you anger them any,I personally haven't had any trouble with either and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not,but sense they don't bring me any trouble I don't say anything about them to my manager it's not like he would care anyway though. He would use the same excuse as always "Irene they are valuable patrons they are the ones who pay the most and keep this hotel open and who lives here?YOU! So I don't want to hear anything else about them." I wish I didn't have to live or work here but it pays well and offers me a place to stay. I'm an aspiring singer I perform on Fridays and Saturdays because that's when most people come.As soon as my career takes off I'm getting out of this joint and moving to Hollywood.
