There's long been rumors about specific anthropomorphic hedgehogs which were a threat for the life of innocents. A few people said, firmly believing in their words, it was something that came from the "so below". Some affirmed it was a substance, similar to a drug, which made those creatures go out of their minds. Some simply affirmed they were monsters that pretended to be hedgehogs, or rather they were just born evil. There was even an speculation that it could be some kind of curse.

Theories spread all across the world for hundreds of years. People's thoughts went from person to person, from the tales and stories. Parents told their kids these stories to frighten them so they wouldn't disobey the orders that were given to them. More than centuries it endured. Nonetheless, as the most recent years progress, these manic and crazy theories and hypothesis seem to have ceased. It's, just as those legends of werewolves and vampires, that people used to believe and fear, but with the evolution of science and knowledge, everyone knows these are just myths. But the reason is, the last individual has died long ago, and they were never heard from again. Seemingly they were "extinct", for around two centuries. Many believe they never existed, however there was proof that it wasn't the case. Scientists gathered more and more information and knowledge, much as they could, assuming the mission of trying to understand every single detail hidden everywhere they could find. Many analysis, many researches, many experiments.

After years, it reached a man called Harold Robotnik. He found it interesting and quite fascinating rather than horrific. He tried to take as many precautions as possible to turn things safer for management. Collecting a bit of DNA and analyzing it before using for his huge project, he was creating something new, something different, with a good purpose. Was it really going to work at all? Well, he was confident and with a never ending hope. Envy on other's eyes could make it a bit difficult to cooperate, but nothing that can't be resolved by a talented scientist like Harold. But he wasn't completely aware of what he was doing, as he thought. There was someone watching inside the darkness unfolding. Something he rather didn't expect was about to happen, but what was it...?

Whatever it was, it shouldn't be that much of a problem, he thought, as he was ready to face every circumstance to help the one he loved the most. His daughter, Maria, needed major help as soon as possible. He couldn't take seeing the endless and unbearable pain reflected in her eyes, all the sadness and grief consumed him, knowing his daughter had no choice rather than suffering. That is, didn't have a choice until he got into work to solve this problem. That was the purpose of his project. He desperately wanted to create something to save her life.

And that's how he was born, that's how he was created. But no one knew the truth hidden in the mysterious darkness of those legends. Not even Harold knew, that his creation, was a BROKEN EXPERIMENT.
