By the time we arrived off that sorry-ass flight to Montana, I could feel the cold winds and overbearing sunlight begging me to leave already. We were supposed to be traveling in Europe. taking some risks on our final break before summer. Partying and eating pasta and baguettes, sneaking wine, and flirting with random hot men and women off the streets
Not in some Twilight-esque hill-valley Sunnyside upstate state. I dreaded it already, but I kept it to myself for Emily's sake. She was like the opposite of me; Beautiful, bright, dependent, and most of all, gullible. Just then, during our whole Uber, she was unbearably kind, forgiving our Uber for what I considered a "waste of time."" "Come on, bags! Let's go," she commented on my two suitcases and my mini duffle bag of makeup and accessories.
It managed to make me giggle as I walked up the small hill in my heels, disappointed but encouraged by her smile. By the time we finished, her dad had shown up at the door with a bewildered smile. "Emilyyy," he said, opening his arms for a hug. I followed behind her a bit, exhausted. She impeded my way with her little hug as I felt her father looking at me.
"Jass," he must've assumed only Emily would've come by the way I predicted the anticipation of a "Hi" or "Hello." Then again, I couldn't blame him; it'd been a long time since he'd seen me. I looked up at him after adjusting myself, and he said, "Wow, Jazz Hands, it's been so long." He smiled again and offered a smaller hug.
"What am I, a stranger?" I gave him a side hug and came in the door after Emily. "Maybe I haven't seen you since your senior sleepovers at my house with Em," he laughed a small bit before closing the door in. "Heh, you remember that?" I had a bit of nostalgia in my memory before Emily called me. "Hey Jazz, come upstairs to my room so I can talk to my dad!" Emily yelled from upstairs as I yelled back. "Looks like I'm in trouble." He gave a classic dad smile as I smiled back and arrived upstairs.
..
..
After a while, Emily came back up to her room as Mr. Hotts set his hand against the corridor. "I understand you girls want some alone time to party and have fun, although I doubt Montana has too many great sites like Europe." You're welcome to go out on the town. Just don't mind me." He seemed as cheerful as ever as I nodded, and he left. Emily switched over to me and cheered with my hands in hers. "Fuck yeah, we get to dress up and party!" she squealed.
"You mean ho-down or whatever it is ya'll do in Montana?" I smirked. "Okay, Ms. Louisiana, if I'm country, than what does that make you?" The room remained silent for a maximum of 2 seconds before I posed, adjusting the fake crown on my head. "The Belle," she rolled her eyes and giggled. "Anyways, I'm looking for some parties or something as soon as we are up tomorrow, Kay, so let's get you in something comfy while I sort this out." She seemed to welcome me back to her home after so long.
I rummaged through my bags to find some shorts and a cheeky "Come into my Venus Flytrap" tank before I picked it up and headed to the closest shower. I turned on some steamy water, undressed myself from my pretty gray gown, and pondered. Those high school days--that's steady-going friendship--and the time I finally got to meet her at her house So much has changed since then. I remembered being the new girl at school and a bit of a bitch, trying to keep people away because of my situation.
I moved to Montana with my mom since my dad was a belligerent asshole who only played the father role when he felt like it. But even when I ignored her advances, she saw through me and made me laugh, and we have been great friends ever since.
