A New Beginning

6 months ago, the world changed, the regime that Superman established was overthrown. The Justice League was then re-established, in which I was given a place. A month later I moved to New York, where under the identity of Luke Blake I began my studies to become a doctor. As for the second part of life ... I became protector of City.

It was a Wednesday morning, and I was sitting in a class where we were discussing the topic of burns and how to treat them. But then my friend Patrick pulled me out of my focus.

James: Are you meeting her today too?

Luke: Who? 

You know who, that pretty blonde... the one you just say your friends with.

Luke: Kara's just a friend, I don't know what you're talking about...

He poked me...

James: Dude, I saw the way you two look at each other... There's gonna be something more...

Luke: I'm studying to become a doctor; I don't have time for...

James: Yeah, you already said that, but you need to loosen up a little bit... have some fun

I sighed...

James: I know what I'm talking about.

Luke: I didn't think so last time...

James: Hey!

I grinned.

Teacher: Am I interrupting you, Mr. Blake?

Luke: No, Mr. Taylor, I'm sorry, it won't happen again.

Taylor: There's gonna be a test on Friday, so I hope you both get A's.

James: Doesn't he have high demands?

Luke: See, that's what we get for interrupting class.

I poked him.

James: Hey!!!

I grinned.

The day went by rather quickly, when I finished at school, Kara was waiting for me. It's not easy for her there. There are those who don't trust her or insult her. But there are those who are beginning to see that she's different from her cousin. I walked over to her and we hugged.

Kara: How was your day?

Luke: Fine, how about you, how's the new job going, I know you're not having an easy time in Metropolis after all that.

She nodded.

Kara: The new job is nice especially the colleagues and the environment. As for the other job, it's harder; Kal has destroyed the trust the public had in him.

I squeezed her hand.

Luke: As Bruce said, that symbol you wear, it's up to you how those people view you. I know you Kara, you'll win their trust back even if it's slow but the result will be all the better for it.

She smiled at me.

We continued down the street, until we came across a small cafe, we sat down at a table, the waitress came over, we both ordered an Espresso. We chatted on various topics, after about half an hour Kara heard police sirens and explosions. We looked at each other.

Luke: Duty calls...

Kara: Do you mind if I assist New York's new resident superhero?

She asked with a smirk.
