It was a late Friday afternoon when the wind started whistling through the cracks of my windows. The trees were swaying back and forth rigorously as if they were being torn out of the earth. I remember being at home with only my father, Nick and younger brother Daniel when the lights started dimming.I recall feeling a cold chill down my neck as if it were blocks of ice barrelling down to my spine. The wind outside howled as loud as can be but all i could remember was the sound of the house's telephone ringing in my ear. Alas, it was my mother, calling to reassure us that she was okay and on her way, however in the middle of the conversation the defenening sound of tyres screeching against the road were heard through the phone's speaker.
*BANG*
The sound of multiple vehicle horns and crashes were heard, leaving us all petrified.

My father, terrified; grabbed the keys for the van and instructed me to lock the doors and keep my brother close. Within a few seconds, he was gone.
I did as my father asked and quickly locked the doors and grabbed onto my brother. We went into the living room and i held him close and the storm outside grew louder and more ferocious.
A bright flash of lightning lit up the entire house followed by a crack of thunder which caused a power outage. I remember trying to navigate my way through my home to find a flashlight while holding my brother's hand.
I decided my brother and i would feel safer in our parents room so we carefully proceeded upstairs.
While we slowly advanced upstairs, the sound of a glass being broken was heard coming from the kitchen. Scared, we quickly ran into our parents'room. The echoing of heavy footsteps were heard in the kitchen. I grabbed my brother and hid him in our parents' wardrobe. I told him i would be close and to stay quiet. I then hid under the bed.
The footsteps of this intruder grew louder  as he got closer to the room. My legs were numb, my Skin, covered in sweat, ny heartbeat grew heavy. I was terrified.  I felt as if it were a high school scary story, only this time i wasn't the reader, i was being read. The room door opened slowly and thats when i felt my heart sink. He was there, in front of the bed, directly between my brother and I.
A thud was heard, i didnt know what happened but it came from the wardrobe. The dark figure turned into the direction of my brothers hiding spot and slowly walked towards it. As the door was ripped open, i could hear him whimpering,  he was so scared, my little brother, this seven year old child, was in the sight of a dark unknown figure. As he grabbed onto him i quietly came out from hiding, grabbed the standing mirror next to the bed and smashed it against the back of the man's head. He dropped, instantly. Laying there, quiet and lifeless. I grabbed onto my brother and ran downstairs only to run into my mother on her way upstairs to find us.
She yelled, what was that noise, where's your father. In shock i didnt know how to reply considering i was just upstairs in her room with some person that was trying to hurt my brother.
Mother ran upstairs and went into her room.
All i could hear was her cracking voice calling my dads name. She screamed she cried out and banged on the floor.
I ran up behind her to see her with this unknown man in her arms, covered in blood. I grabbed the flashlight and shone it towards the figure. Only to see my father, dead, in my mother's arms......
