I stared down as the white envelope in my hands, contemplating on opening this letter that will determine my acceptance into the university. All my life I have been astonished by skincare and makeup, which ultimately crafted my dream to be an esthetician and makeup artist. This past spring, I applied to Seoul's Esthetician University, where I hope to continue my education.Since I was young, my mother was always dolled up, for fancy occasions, yet she always had skin like glass. I, thankfully, have been blessed with her skin. She always kept me up to date with skincare and made sure I took good care of it, since she claimed I would thank her when I'm old. Although I personally don't typically wear a ton of makeup, I love doing other people's makeup. When I was younger, I used to play around with makeup with my friends at sleepovers, which led to me running a small side business of going makeup for events.
I was born and raised in South Korea, more specifically Busan. My whole family lives here within my neighborhood, including my grandparents and cousins, who are older than me. I just turned 18, and I just graduated high school. I live with my mother, father, and older brother, Yugyeom. Though, Yugyeom is only living with us temporarily since he is renovating his new house.
I look back down at the envelope, which is sealed with a gold logo of the university. I slowly tore the envelope open, pulling out the beige letter, that's folded in half. I carefully unraveled the letter, and began reading...
" To Choi Y/N,
We appreciate your interest in Seoul's Esthetician University. We are happy to announce your acceptance into the university for the following 4 years... "
I didn't even finish the letter before instinctively screaming out of excitement. I dropped the letter on my desk, and ran outside my room, down the long hallway, down the staircase, and ran into the kitchen to where my mom and dad were seated.
"Guys guys guys! I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED!" I exclaimed loudly, earning a shocked look from my parents before they jumped up in excitement
"We are so proud of you y/n!" My father sheepishly said to me as he hugged me
"Wah Y/n I can't believe this! I couldn't be prouder!!" My mom intervened
"So sweetie when do you move in to the dorms?" My dad asked as we all sat down for dinner, that my mom prepared for us
"When I looked online previously, the university says August 30th, but since it's in Seoul I'm sure we would have to leave a day earlier for the traveling."
"Okay we will take off of work, I'm sure Yugyeom will want to come too" My dad said in-between bites of our bulgogi dish
"Where is he?" I asked, wanting to share the news with him as well
"He's at the construction site, they are almost finished with the exterior paneling, so he wanted to make sure everything is set in place before the roofing men come" my mother explains
I hummed in understanding, as I finished my dish of bulgogi. After my parents finished, I washed the dishes before heading back to my room to finish reading the letter. Today is August 23rd, which means one week until move in day. I closed the door to my room, laying down on my large bed, and I snuck under the covers. I turned on my LED lights, and turned off my room light. I pulled out my laptop, researching everything about Seoul and the life there. I've been to Seoul a few times over the years, but not enough to know where everything is. As much as I love Busan, Seoul fascinates me with it's city life. After about an hour or so of researching Seoul, I turned off my LED lights and went to bed.
~ Next Day ~
I opened the large wooden door, walking into the warmly-lit cafe. Conversations flooded the small cafe, almost every table occupied by people of my town. This cafe is the heart of my town, the go to spot for everyone. I recognized a few people, from my school and the regulars who always are at the cafe. I searched the room, looking for my best friend, Haerin. We planned to meet today, just to catch up and hang out before we both leave for college. I spotted her sitting in the back of the cafe, near the table of pastries, on her MacBook.
