"What is a photograph?" The girl asked.

"A photograph is merely a piece of developed paper." The oblivious boy scoffed.

"Are you blind?" The girl questioned. "You must be if that's as far as you can explain yourself."

"What would you like me to say?" The boy questioned the girl as if he was challenging her to do better.

"A photograph may be merely a developed piece of paper. But it is not the paper itself; it is what the paper possess." She tried to explain to the boy.

"An image you mean?" He asks the girl as if trying to understand.

"Well yes an image." She replied.

"So i'm right then?" He asked.

"You are not wrong." She vaguely replied once again.

"You say this as if you know something I do not." The boy urges her.

"A photograph is a developed piece of paper that contains an image, yes. But it is also what the image contains. A photograph is a story. It is a frozen piece of time that you or nobody else can go back to. It is a memory, whether it is a good memory or a bad memory it is still a memory." She elaborated for the boy. "And by nature people cling to memories, we cling to the past. Because in a world so unpredictable the past that holds these memories is the only thing set in stone. We are able to look at these 'developed pieces of paper' and take a glimpse into a moment otherwise forgotten. A photograph tells a story, a memory, it brings back emotion and allows you to feel what you felt in that moment. A photograph may merely be a developed piece of paper that contains an image, but look at the image, it is so much more than that."

The boy stared at the girl as if trying to piece together the puzzle that was the girl that stood before him, and he smiled now knowing something she didn't.

"What?" The girl asked.

The boy responded by taking his phone and standing up walking away. Until he stopped, turned around, and the only sound that could be heard in the room was the snapping sound of a photo being taken.
