We ran down the path as fast as we could go for as long as we could go. It gave me such a rush that I almost fell when my Dad stopped dead in his tracks...
“What is it? What’s wrong?” I asked him.
“I think I hear Kalvin! I think I hear him and your Mom. We have to go check it out,” he replied. I felt so happy to maybe finding my family again! I was crying tears of joy as we were running down the glistening golden path that now hurt my eyes also. We were stopped by a giant waterfall in the middle of the path that stretched across the whole jungle it seemed like. It was strange though, you couldn’t hear the waterfall at all. Not the crashing of the water at the bottom. Not the sound of running water either. I could see through the waterfall. It was like there was an invisible wall behind the waterfall. I was so mad that we couldn’t get over to the other side.
“I will lift you up over my shoulders and then you feel through the waterfall to see if there is a way to go through it,” Dad told me.
“You’ll have to hold Mr. Meowgy too. I can’t hold him in my jacket if I am going to get wet,” I replied. I trusted my Dad not to let go of Meow and let him get away. Besides, he loved Meow too. Who doesn’t??? I was giving him Meow when we heard Mom and Kalvin on the other side! They were saying:
“Wes, Lexi? Is that you?”
“Can you hear us?”
“Can you see us?”
“Is there a way we can come to you or you can come to us?”
I could hear them, but not quite see them. The waterfall made it all blurry looking through it. Especially when you are trying to make out faces. I told Dad to hurry and boost me up.
“We have to hurry! I think I see Mom and Kalvin on the other side!” I exclaimed with joy and excitement in my voice and my eyes. He lifted me up and I jumped right through the waterfall. I was so happy to see Mom and Kalvin that I was crying and laughing at the same time in shock that I made it through and that we found them! Dad just jumped across the middle of the waterfall to make sure that he would know he could get through also.
“I am SO glad that we found you!!! I love you all so... much!” Dad and I said at the same time. Now, that we were all together we walked on down the path with Mr. Meowgy back in my jacket and Kalvin in Dad’s arms. I knew that everything would be alright and we would make it home. It was nearly 8:30 pm now! It was getting darker and darker as we walked on. When we couldn’t see anything, we stopped in a little meadow clearing on the side of the path and laid down to go to sleep for the night/day. It was morning when we woke up. We woke up around 7-8:00 am-ish. The sun was shining brighter than it was yesterday. I felt all cheerful and warm inside. I picked some berries for breakfast and remembered that we didn’t bring the water bottles from the last clearing with us since we were in such a rush to find Mom and Kalvin. We ate berries and then got back on the path. I didn’t mind that the path now made my eyes hurt from looking at it for so long. I was just glad that we were all okay and well. We walked down the golden path until 9:45 am, then stopped at the nearest clearing for water and berries. We were back on the path around 10:30 am and then we found a HUGE clearing not even 60 yards from where we were. It had a little cottage right in the middle and then a little shed on the west side of it. We ran up to it hoping there would either be people there, or food there. (Both would be nice also though.) We ran up onto the porch and rang the doorbell. Someone finally opened the old wooden creaky door. No one answered to the doorbell, so Dad opened the big wooden door and walked inside. We looked through all the rooms, but no one was home. We figured that no one was living there. The cupboards were filled with food other than berries, the beds had warm blankets, the showers had hot water, and the shed was full of shovels and candles, oil lanterns, and radios. Dad was happy to see the radios, Kalvin was happy to see some toys in one of the bedrooms, Mom was happy to see a hot shower, and I was happy to see some food that wasn’t all and just berries.
