Why Do We Sleep?

January 21, 2022-continued

When Adeline began to regain consciousness she began to look around. She was in a chair in front of a wooden desk. She was in an office. It had white marble walls and grey stone floors. It had no windows.  She then realized she heard voices outside the door, they were arguing. She wanted to investigate but two guards were standing by the door and she figured would be better if she stayed put.

"What happened? How did I get here?" She was trying to remember, "The car, Mae, school... drink. Mae! Did she poison me!?"

She began to put two and two together. One of the voices outside was Mae. She assumed the office was the man's. Weirdly, the man's voice also sounded familiar. But she couldn't place it. She listened to what they were saying.
Man: You can't just bring random people Here!
Mae: I know but-
Man: No I'm serious. Are you trying to blow our cover? Especially since I am the director. If they remove me leave, you know who will be in charge.
Mae: Listen to me, she had the dream.
Man: she could have lied about it.
Mae: she is my friend, she couldn't have known about it to lie about it.
Man: fine I will talk to her, stay out here it probably wouldn't be so great if she saw you yet. * He walked toward the door and Adeline stood up behind the chair facing the door. He opens the door...*
*door opens and they make eye contact.*
Man: "Adeline?!"
Adeline: Uncle Banner!?
The man or Uncle Banner walked in and motioned for the guards to leave them.
He walked over to his chair and seemed stressed out. He sighed and asked Adeline, "Is it true? Did you have the dream?" Adeline responded almost offended, " Okay I have not seen you since my dad disappeared a year ago and the only thing you want to say is if I had some stupid dream."
"Adaline please, did you?"
" I dunno I had a dream I suffocated from smoke, but I mean do you care about me at all?"
"Adeline that was not just a dream, that dream is related to what happened to your father."
She responded shaky "What?"
