For four year old Kyozen, every day was a fun new adventure. She never drifted too far from her house, but exploring the forest had to be her favorite part of her day. She spent her time exploring the forest, playing in the river, practicing her bending, and helping her parents out around the house. She chased bugs, befriended every animal she came across, climbed trees, and foraged for fruits and veggies with her mother. They were happy in their little world.
Of all the animals in the forest, Kyozen felt the most connected to the deer. Everywhere she went animals followed her, but the deer were special. At least one was always with her. In fact when a doe would hide her fawn, she would also hide Kyozen away too. The forest taught her many things, especially how to hide and conceal her presence. The longer she played in the forest with all the animals, the more confident she got and the further and further she drifted from her house. Kyozen had no idea how big the world truly was. And she certainly didn't know there was a village nearby or even what a village was.
This was the furthest she had ever been. Soon she began to hear some strange noises, something she's never heard before. TWACK... TWACK... TWACK... Kyozen slowed her movements and quickly hid away from the peculiar sound. When she didn't hear it anymore, she came out of her hiding spot and climbed up a tall tree to get a better view. Making sure to hide in the leaves and branches like she had learned from the raccoons, she searched all around her looking for the source of the sound.
Her eyes landed on a figure not that far from her. They had raven hair, almost like her mother's but shorter and straight instead of curly. She watched the figure walk up to a tree in front of him to pick up small, pointy metal objects, she thought looked like stars, that were stuck in the bark of the tree. He turned around and walked back to where he was standing before, took a breath, and threw the stars all at once. TWACK... TWACK... TWACK... So that's what the sound was! The stars landed in a perfectly straight vertical line on the tree in front of him. She stayed there and watched him practice with the stars until the sun started to set. As she attempted to climb down, a branch snapped, scraping her knee and causing it to start to bleed. The boy immediately looked around, searching for the cause of the sudden sound. She froze. Seconds later a second boy jumped out of a bush and in front of the other. The second boy looked just like him but much smaller and with shorter hair. He had to have been close to the same size as she was. Kyozen stared in awe as she had never seen another person the same size as her. He jumped on the older ones back in a fit of laughter and together they turned around and walked in the opposite direction.
Deciding it was safe to move again she carefully climbed back down the tree. When she arrived back home with a deer guiding her, well after the sun had gone down, her mother immediately scooped her up. Rozen had been terrified that something bad had happened to her. She looked her child over from head to toe and noticed that she had scraped her knee. When questioned about where she had been and how she got hurt, Kyozen decided not to tell her mother what she had discovered.
"I scraped it when I was trying to climb a tree today." Kyozen explained, looking down, hoping she wouldn't ask her anymore.
Kyosei took her from her mothers arms and brought her over by the river. He bended a small amount of water into his hand and placed it over her wound. It began to glow a bright blue as her wound healed up completely. He kissed the top of her head and carried her into the house for dinner and then bedtime. She had tired herself out with all the exploring she did and fell into a deep sleep full of dreams of the two boys she discovered that day.

Kyozen went out to the same spot every day for the next week, hoping to see the boys again, but they were nowhere to be found. So she went back to just plain exploring like she used to, but always making sure to make it home in time to not make her mother worry about her. After not discovering anything new in a while, Kyozen decided once again to wander further out.
TWACK... TWACK... TWACK... TWACK! There was that noise again!
This time she crept in closer, hiding herself in some nearby bushes. TWACK! This time the sound was much louder. She looked up and right above her head, a knife had landed in the tree behind her. Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest, surprised by how close it had been. One of the boys began to walk toward her so she quickly hid behind the tree, hoping with all her might she hadn't been caught. Deciding that was enough excitement for that day, she quickly returned home early. She went out every day after then looking for the boys. She couldn't stop thinking about them. And every day she saw at least one, if not both of the mysterious boys.
