Alessio's POV
"No, let my brother go! Let him go!"
I quickly throw the covers off me and run over to my door. I quietly open it and tiptoe my way towards the stairs from where the noise came from.
"Stop it! Don't touch him!"
My eyes widen at the sight.
My father's goons are scattered all around the living room. I crane my head to find whoever was shouting, but my view is blocked by all the tall men.
"Stop!"
I slowly creep down the stairs only to find a little girl and boy in the middle of the circle. The boy is struggling as one of my father's men grabs his arm tightly.
The girl seems to be around my age with disheveled hair loosely tied up in pigtails. Tears are streaming down her cheeks and she's trembling.
"Serafina! Don't come closer!" the boy yells as he continues to struggle.
Serafina ignores the boy's commands and runs up to the man holding him, hitting him as hard as her little body can manage.
I start shaking my head when I see another one of my father's men walk up to her.
"Don't hurt her!"
I freeze when I realize those words just came out of my mouth.
Several heads swivel around to stare at me, making me instantly regret saying anything at all. I slowly take a step back, afraid of what's about to happen.
My father's voice freezes me on the spot, "Alessio. What are you doing awake at this time?"
I whimper when he comes into view, angrily marching towards me.
"I-I'm sorry father. I was ju-"
"I don't want to hear another word out of you. I had told you to make sure you stayed in your room and you disobeyed my orders. Go back to your room this instance." he says.
I quickly turn to leave but stop myself when I remember the little girl and boy.
I turn back around and the words come flying out of my mouth before I can stop them, "Why are they here?"
My father's eyes darken and he lets out a big sigh, sending shivers down my body.
"It's none of your business." he addresses his men, "Put them in the basement."
My eyes narrow at his words, "Why?"
He swivels and harshly grabs me by the arm, "Why are you still here? Didn't I tell you to go back to your room?"
I try to pull out of his grasp to no avail; he's too strong. Tears start to fill my eyes and I manage to whisper, "I'm sorry."
He finally lets go of me and I stumble backward in surprise. I realize the little girl is staring at me with tears streaming down her cheeks, and I want to cry even more. I take one last glance at her before putting my back to them to hide in my room.

Serafina's POV
"Wake up."
I gasp and open my eyes. I quickly look around only to realize it's my dumb brother bothering me once again.
"What do you want." I groan.
"Father wants both of us in his office in exactly 10 minutes. It sounded important." Nicholas says.
