I sat at the table with my black coffee and watched Aspen eat her breakfast with her teddy, Lucas was in the kitchen doing the cooking and cleaning. I was supposed to make a very hard decision about Aspen's future, which is very important.

"I'm done"

Aspen puts her spoon down and gets off her chair.

"Okay then you can go then"

She happily nods and runs off, I sighed and turned my body towards Lucas.

"What should I do? Aspen really wants to stay with me, but I think that is a bad idea considering my lifestyle"

"To tell you the truth Boss... it's really your decision and if you do take the child in then that means she comes first in every aspect of your life and not to mention that she needs to go to school and she will also be in endanger"

I sat quietly and thought about all the different things Lucas said.

"What would you do?"

"My opinion doesn't matter....... But I would take her in as one of my own"

I knew he was going to say that. Lucas loves taking in stray things, it was one of the reasons why I hired him.

"Would you take her in?"

Lucas shook his head and crossed his arms, I got my answer and I didn't like it.

"Tristan... Aspen likes you and no one else, therefore I cannot look after her"

I was quiet, I didn't know what to say or do.

"Is the reason why you can't make the decision, is because you don't want to be responsible for another human life and it would make you look like you have gone soft?"

I was shocked, Lucas was right. It was silent, and the tension in the room grew slowly. Aspen walked in and stood in front of me.

"Tristan?"

I glanced down at her and redirected my attention from Lucas to Aspen.

"Yes Aspen"

"It's cold"

I could see her body shaking and I hadn't noticed the sudden drop of temperature either, Lucas sneezed and shivered.

"Why is it suddenly cold?"

"You find that out and I'll get Aspen something warmer"

Lucas nods and leaves the room, I picked Aspen up. She snuggled into my shoulder and her tiny arms barely wrapped around my neck.

"Sorry sweetheart, I didn't realize how cold it was"

Aspen mumbled something and laid her head down, I reached my bedroom and went to the wardrobe. I opened the door and searched for a hoodie. I found my black hoodie with red roses and took it off the hanger, I gently put Aspen down on the ground.

"Hold your arms up"

She followed my instructions and I put the hoodie over her, I stood back to look at Aspen from afar. The hoodie came down to the floor and the sleeves were too long, basically, the hoodie engulfed her. But it looked like Aspen didn't care, one thing for sure is that she looked a lot warmer than before.

"Better?"

"Yes, thank you"

Aspen brightly smiled and walked out of the room, I followed her out and we parted ways in the living room. Lucas came back inside with a concerned look, he pushed the phone into my hands and I looked at the picture he took of the generator. It was completely destroyed as someone had purposely damaged the generator, so I gave Lucas back his phone and began thinking of our options.

"Somebody knows we're here"

"So what do we do Boss?"

"We are to stay inside for now, but we are all staying in the living room and we must keep our guns close"

"Lock every window and door then start cooking"

"Got it, Boss"

I left the room and strolled into the living room, Aspen was sitting on the floor playing with her stuffed dog toy.

"Hey Aspen"

I crouched down to her level and she looked up at me.

"We are having a sleepover in here, so I need you to grab your favorite things and come back here.

"With you guys?"

"Yes"

She excitedly got up and ran out of the room, I sighed knowing the problem we were going to face.

"It's done, Tristan"

"Good, I have made my decision"

"Oh?"

"She will be my daughter"

I hope this is the right decision...
