Episode 24: No More Hiding

The next day was their last day of college.

And the silence in the car was thick.

Beomgyu sat closest to the left, while Yeonjun sat in the shotgun seat in the front. Soobin was in the middle as well, on the right. Taehyun and Kai were in the back, both listening to music as the tension was too much for them.

Oddly, they could sense that something else was off.

And it wasn't just Beomgyu and Yeonjun.

Soobin was also acting weird. His greeting in the morning had been extremely short, and he seemed like something was bothering him or occupying his mind.

But no one could guess what.

The boys arrived at the university building, and exited the vehicle shortly after.

"Have fun I guess," Kai said.

"I'll try," Yeonjun replied.

Beomgyu felt a pang in his chest, knowing that he'd usually say "we".

"Should we perhaps order food later to celebrate?" Taehyun suggested.

"That would be great, right guys?"

The three Chois simply nodded.

"Umm... wanna give each other a group hug?" Soobin asked.

Beomgyu and Yeonjun instantly looked at the ground.

"Why did I ask?"

"We can give you one," Taehyun said.

"Alright."

Soobin wrapped his arms around the two youngest and gave them a short squeeze. And this time, Yeonjun felt the pang in his chest.

"Okay, see you later guys."

"See you."

The last day strangely flew by quickly, and Kai and Taehyun couldn't believe it when Professor Kim tearfully bid the freshmen, now sophomores, goodbye. Looks like someone valued them more than neither of them expected.

So maybe that's why the two of them bounded out of the building with cheerful smiles, holding hands as they skipped down the stairs.

"We did it! We made it through our first year of college!" Taehyun exclaimed.

"Yeah... and it was one hell of a year."

"Definitely."

Kai spread his arms and Taehyun immediately hugged him.

"I'm proud of us two for making it," Kai said.

"And everyone else too?"

"Yes... but especially you and me. I'm glad our efforts paid off, and moreover because we worked really hard to find spots here."

"True."

Taehyun spotted Soobin out of the corner of his eye, and he waved at him excitedly.

"Hi Soobin!"

"Hey you two!"

Beomgyu was trailing behind him, only giving a weak smile at them.

"So, how does it feel to now be sophomores," he decided to say.

"Weird... or maybe it's just the weather," Kai responded.

"That's exactly what I said when I finished my freshman year," a final voice spoke.

The four boys turned to see Yeonjun approach them, his backpack hanging slightly off his shoulder.

"And you? Senior Yeonjun," Soobin joked.
