Chapter One: Shove in the right direction

The cold wind brushed against their hair, allowing the strands of (H/C) hair to flow through the brisk air as they straightened out their scarf lightly while keeping their (E/C) orbs fixated on the ground below them. They listen to the sound of the fallen leaves crunching under their brown boots lightly, pulling out their phone silently, allowing the peaceful setting to sink in once more. They lightly tap their phone with a slight huff of annoyance,

"I'm five minutes early? You have to be kidding me-" Mumbled the 20-year-old, seeming a little nervous. They let their mind wander before looking at the store in front of them. It was the one and only Candy Club, one of the only candy stores in the town. They had only come to this place for an interview due to their best buddy, Rick.

After about 3 minutes of standing out in the cold, they decided to try and conjure their confidence as they looked both ways before crossing the road. They seemed to have gotten less and less confident as they reached out to open the door, but before they could do so an extremely familiar face seemed to have opened the tinted glass door before them, "Ah, Rick!" Sputtered out the shorter figure with a shaky voice,

"I couldn't just let you bail out on me, it was written all over your face (Y/N).." Stated the monotone male as he ushered the nervous (Y/N) into the shop lightly, their eyes landing on a specific black-haired employee, "That must be Kevin, okay (Y/N)! Just be yourself!" Thought (Y/N) to themselves as Kevin seemed to take notice of the nervous figure, "Oh, you must be (Y/N)! Rick told me about you coming today, he even told me how much experience and other things for you, lucky for you we have one last spot for a new employee." Explained Kevin with a small smirk, his eyes seeming a bit droopy. (Y/N) smiled softly, their eyes soon lighting up with joy,

    "That's a relief, I thought Rick here was pulling my leg and tricking me about the new employee wanted situation." (Y/N) beamed seeming extremely glad that their friend was sweet enough to help them find a job right after they moved back into town. "Heh, I can reassure you that he wasn't, anyways ill go get you a uniform from the back." Stated Kevin as he went to some other room, leaving Rick and (Y/N) alone for a bit.

Kevin's Pov:

"I hope those kids don't come in here this Halloween, that poor soul won't survive a night with those gremlins bringing trouble wherever they go." I thought as I looked around for the uniforms, finding them neatly folded inside a box full of them. I then quickly grab one of the mandatory hats before stopping in my place after hearing some laughter coming from not only the newbie but also Rick, "that's surprising that guy barely even shows emotion at all..." I thought once more before walking out of the room with a slight frown, feeling too tired to smile at the moment.

But all of a sudden (Y/N) turned over to meet my gaze, smiling softly for some odd reason I smirk back slightly. "Their smile is contagious, maybe having them around won't be too bad" I then quickly snap myself out of my thoughts before handing them the uniform gently,

"Here you go, your shift will start tomorrow I need all the help I get on Halloween night." I explained to the rookie as they began to frown slightly, "Is that alright, I could always r-" Before I could finish they cut me off, "Oh, no no it's just my friend, Streber- I have to cancel plans for this Halloween party hangout I was going to with him!" sputtered (Y/N), "Wait, YOU know Streber?" I question with surprise. I never would have guessed this was that childhood friend he was blabbing on about. "Oh, yes I do! I'm his childhood bestie! We're inseparable!" Chuckled (Y/N) with a smug smile, They seem to be getting comfortable. "Why, do you know 'em too?" They ask with a raised eyebrow, "Oh, yeah I'm friends with him too!" I exclaim.

"Wow really?!" Shouted (Y/N) with excitement, "That's so cool!-" before they could continue to ask more questions they instantly got a phone call, "oh, speak of the devil-" Muttered the shorter one as they picked up the phone, "Hey streber!" Greeted (Y/N) with that same contagious smile- Why in the world am I thinking this? it's literally just a soon to be co-worker, geez Kevin get a grip.

(Y/N's Pov)

"Heya (Y/N)! How's that job interview?" Streber questioned, seeming super happy to be just talking on the phone with them. "Oh! I got the job, turns out your friend works here-" Before I could say anything else he instantly starts yelling, "WAIT DO YOU MEAN KEVIN?! YOU'RE WORKING AT CANDY CLUB?! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?" I wince in pain before grumbling, "Okay first of all OW... second of all I didn't know it really mattered until now- plus you never brought it up, bud." I frown in annoyance at my loud friend as he begins to go on a tangent about how he should know these things because he's your bestie and should know EVERYTHING."Streber- please." I grumble slightly with an amused smirk, "oh, sorry I'm just... super happy you're back." I chuckle a bit, before rolling my eyes playfully,
    "I know, I know- but sadly you must wait to see me, I have a shift tomorrow." Once again he began to burst out yelling, "WHAT!? Kevin is totally getting an earful from me..." Grumbled the man playfully on the other side of the phone. "Yeah, I bet he will. Anyway, why exactly did you call me?" I ask, obviously trying to get this call back on track.

    "Oh! I was going to ask you if you wanted to hang out with me and a friend after your interview-" Sputtered out the male, "oh sure dude, ill be down to hang out!" I replied happily, my eyes gleaming with excitement. "Okay, okay! Cya soon (Y/N) also tell Kevin I said hi!" I nod with a small smile still plastered on my face, "Okay okay, cya dork." I reply before hanging up with a small sigh, I then shift my eyes back to Kevin. "Heh sorry about that, Streber can be a bit hyper when I don't talk to him in the span of 5 minutes-" I say playfully before instantly remembering something, "oh also he says hi!"

I say quickly, Kevin chuckled slightly before nodding, "Well tell him I said hi back when you get the chance to, anyway we gotta close up shop so if you wanna go now you can." Explains Kevin with an almost unnoticeable smile, "Actually since I'm here already, lemme help it's better to learn now than never, right?" I and Kevin chuckle a bit as Rick already had gotten to work closing up. I place my uniform and get to work also, Maybe working here really won't be a drag, especially with Kevin and Rick around!
