Jacklyn's POV

As I approach the main doors to my new high school, i think to myself:

Breathe, Jacklyn. Its just the first day of school, no big deal, right? I'm gonna make new friends. I'm not gonna be the only new kid. Yeah, you're not alone. You've got this girl.

Oh, how wrong I was.

As I open the doors and step inside, the overpowering scent of Axe fills my sinuses. It feels as if one by one, every person in the halls stops their conversation to look at me. No, stare at me.

Do I have something on my face? Is my shirt on backwards?

The group of girls closest to me give me a death stare. I nervously fidget with my hair as the one in the middle slowly makes her way over to me.

"Who are you?", She demands, hand on her hip.

"What's it to you?", I reply, preparing myself for an argument. She looks surprised for a second, as if no one has ever spoken to her like that before, but she quickly replaces the look of shock with one of authority.

" Listen, bitch. I don't know who you are, or why you're disrespecting me, but know this: I run this school. You're obviously new here, so I'll let you off with a warning this time. But you better watch your back, kid."

Whoa. Who does this chick think she is?

And with a sassy flick of her long, blonde hair, she struts down the hallway, her posse hot on her heels. Everybody else in the hallway clears out, making a path for the queen bee.

So much for a good start.

After my encounter with miss friendly, I head over to my first class. I check my schedule: English. Okay, not too bad. I make my way across the hall to the english department, and walk into Ms. Blake's class. I look around, and see everybody is already sitting in groups, talking loudly among themselves. Well, almost everybody. In the very back of the room, all alone, is a small redhead, with her nose in a book. I cross the room, trying to ignore the stares of the other students. I set down my books next to the redhead and pull up a chair.

"Hi, I'm Jack", I say, hoping she'll introduce herself.

Nothing.

I repeat myself, a little louder this time. "Hi, My name's Jacklyn".

She jumps, clearly startled. I assume she didn't even realize I was here.

"Oh my goodness, you scared me!", she exclaimed, her hand on her heart.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to", I say sheepishly as i rub the back of my neck with my hand.

"That's quite alright. The name's Lydia." She extends her hand out towards me.

I shake it, smile, and turn to face the teacher, now starting the lesson.

Maybe this day isn't going to be so bad after all.

Spoke too soon.
