Chapter 1 It was a breezy day as I walked home from school. I rode the bus home to the end of my street, then I walked the rest of the way to my house. My road was a quiet, "no outlet" road. It was Friday afternoon and I had nothing planned for the entire evening. As I was walking home I couldn't help but think about tomorrow night. It was going to be my first ever softball tryouts for a travel softball team. I was excited but very nervous. I continued to walk home. When I got there, I got my key out and unlocked the door. I walked in and grabbed my favorite snack, apples and peanut butter, and went upstairs to my room. My parents were at work so they were not home yet. I sat down on my bed and got out my phone. Typical teenager, or as the adults may see it, always on our phones. Anyway, I had saw that I had a text from my best friend, Lisa. Lisa and I had been best friends since kindergarten. We were always in the same class and played together at recess. We've even played the same sports together since we have known each other. I unlocked my phone to see what she had said. She said that she had to tell me something at tryouts tomorrow. I was confused because I did not know why she could not have just told me right now. But I didn't really think too much about it and just said "okay". My parents got home at about 6:30 that night. They both work at the same place. Which, was at the hospital down the street. My mother was a nurse and my father was a doctor. As we were sitting at the table we talked about each others day. I asked my mom how her day was. She responded, "just the usual. How about your's?""It was okay. Nothing too exciting." I told her."Ah, I see. Are you ready for tryouts tomorrow?" my mother asked me."Yeah. I am a little nervous though." I responded. "You will be perfectly fine. I believe in you. You will do amazing!" She said to me."Thanks mom" I said. "I think I'm gonna go take a shower now""Okay but when you are done you need to wash the dishes." Being the only child kind of sucks. You have to do chores all the time, you have no one to talk to when you're mad at your parents. But, there are some pros to not having any siblings. For instance, no sharing, your parents only buy things for you, and you basically get more freedom because you don't have to watch your younger siblings so you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~When I got out of the shower it was already 9:30 pm. I normally go to bed at around 10:00 pm. Being this time, I decided I'd go ahead and get ready for bed. I brushed my teeth and hair in my bathroom. I walked down the hallway to my bedroom and walked in. The lights were already off so I just went to laid in bed and went to sleep. As I went to lay down, I accidentally laid on my cat, Simon. He jumped up real quick and "meowed" at me. He wasn't always a mean cat, but as he has gotten older, he has become more difficult to deal with. We first got Simon when he was just about six weeks old. We found him on the side of a road. He looked hurt and injured so my family decided to take him in. We took him home and gave him food and water. After a few months, he was back to health. I picked him up and put him down at the bottom of my bed where my feet were. After a little while, I feel asleep.
Chapter 2I woke up at about 10:00 the next morning. My tryouts started at 12:00 that afternoon and it takes half an hour to get to the fields where the tryouts take place. Knowing that I had an hour and a half to get ready, I got out of bed and went downstairs to get breakfast. My mom and dad were already down in the kitchen eating cereal. "Good morning, Ashlynn" my dad said to me.My dad was always the bright and perky one out of our family. He always looked at the good side of things and never the bad. He is a doctor for a living, and he always makes all of his patients feel better just by his attitude. My mom is kind of the opposite, though. She isn't a grump all the time, but she works long hours in an office, so I understand. "Good morning, dad." I answered him. "are you or mom taking me to tryouts?" "Your mother is" he said "I would but I have work at 11. I'll have to leave soon. But good luck, honey, you will do just fine.""Okay I will" I responded to him. I didn't really care who took me. I was fine as long as i had a ride. I walked over to the toaster and put a piece of bread in. I walked to the pantry and got out the peanut butter and walked back over to the toaster.nI really liked peanut butter if you couldn't already tell. I waited a few minutes and then got the toast out. I put it on a plate and spread the peanut butter across the toast. I sat down at the table and started eating. It was really quiet. More quiet than normal. I guess because we were all eating. Oh well, I thought. I didn't worry about it. I had other things to worry about. After I was done eating I walked back upstairs and put my practice clothes on. This included a pair of softball pants and an old, blue, 1st place tournament shirt. I put on my socks and slides. I grabbed my cleats and put them in a duffle bag. I walked back downstairs and went into the garage. Our garage door is connected to the inside of our house. I walked into the garage and put my duffle bag in the car. I also grabbed my softball bag with my helmet, glove, and bat in it and put that into the car also. I got into the car and waited for my mom to come out. When she came out into the garage she got in the car and asked me if I had everything. I said yes and we started our way to the tryouts.About a half an hour later of a boring car ride of listing to my mom's old music, we finally arrived. I got out of the car and saw my best friend since kindergarten, Lisa. We were both trying out for the same team. We both thought we were pretty good and thought that we had a chance to make it. I was the main pitcher on our old team and she was the main catcher. Ever since we were 6 years old, the first year we ever started playing, that was how it always was. Lisa saw me and came running over to me and gave me a hug. She asked me if I was excited."Yeah, but a little nervous." I wasn't just a little nervous, I was very nervous. I couldn't tell her that, though. "Me too," Lisa said. "but don't worry. We will both do great.""Yeah!" I said very indecisive. "Dont worry, Ash! You'll do great!" Lisa said trying to cheer me up. "Great!" she said. "Let's go and get ready then!"I told my mom I was gonna go now and she hugged me and told me good luck. I hugged her back and went to the back of my car to get my bags. I met up with Lisa again and we walked back to the fields together. The fields were made of turf. I liked turf fields. I had played on one before when I played for my old team. I thought it was pretty fun but other people from my team thought it wasn't very fun. They thought this because of the I got my glove and I grabbed a ball from a bucket that was sitting near by. There were a few other girls that were out stretching and tossing. I didn't happen to recognize any of them though. I figured that if I made the team then I would be able to get to know these girls. Lisa came out with her glove and we went out into the grass and first stretched our arms. As we were stretching, Lisa walks closer to me and starts to say something. "It looks like the coach just walked over here.""Yeah and it looks like he has a clipboard, too.""So? What is that supposed to mean?""Either he wants us to sign in or that just to keep track of what we do good.""Or bad""Yeah," I said, "or bad"
