Trudging out of her dorm at 7am did not suit Wanda well at all. Hair messy and tangled with her figure crumpled and small, Wanda looked as though one tiny push would knock her over completely. The previous night's midnight study session had not done her any justice as she felt as dumb as yesterday even before the full day of lectures after lectures to catch up on what she had missed. The work pile now piling up to be almost as tall as Wanda herself was rotting beside her table back at the dorms.
However despite her ever so high workload, Wanda could not help but feel a slight ecstasy in seeing Natasha turn the open-close sign on the door to 'open'.
It was funny how someone could like someone they just met as much as Wanda liked Natasha. The redhead just had some sort of aura about her that attracted Wanda to her.
Just then, Natasha caught Wanda's small figure staring in her direction and felt a small smirk form on her lips. However, she then noticed how dark Wanda's eye bags were getting and decided to do the girl a favour.
Waving in her direction, Natasha called Wanda over, "Hey Wanda! Come here!"
Slightly bemused and startled, Wanda quickly made her way over to the smiling redhead.
"What's up?" Wanda asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Oh nothing, just thought to offer you some free breakfast,"
"Oh no, I couldn't do that," Wanda refused politely.
"Please, you might as well come in and play with the dogs at least?"
Wanda took a quick glance at her watch but who was she kidding, she would have gone in with Natasha even if her class was about to start.
"Oh alright, you really can't get enough of me can you?"
"Settle down you big flirt, I just saw you gawping at my store just now and decided to save you the embarrassment of being a human statue again."
Wanda felt as though her face was on fire, and she was sure that it looked that way too. Thus she quickly walked into the store and was greeted by the fresh aroma of pancakes and waffles along with a bored Yelena.
"Oh good, you guys finished flirting in front of my store," Yelena commented sarcastically.
"We were not flirting, you probably interpreted it wrongly," Wanda said huffily.
"And since when was this your store?" Natasha asked as she used a rag to lightly hit Yelena's head.
"Since you left me alone to flirt with Ms Tomato over there," Yelena replied nonchalantly, smoothing her braid back down.
Heaving a sigh, Natasha guided Wanda to a table before she let the dogs out and about.
"Eek- the dogs just tried to bite my hand off I swear!-" Wanda squealed in a not so glamorous way.
"Relax, the dogs just trying to play with you, here," Natasha stifled a laugh as she eased a baby corgi into Wanda's stiff, robotic-like arms.
"Am I holding it right?"
"Here you move your arm down here to support it..."
Both Natasha and Wanda paused momentarily to take in what position they were in right now. Natasha's back arched over Wanda's horrible posture with both of Natasha's hands and arms supporting that of Wanda's. Not to mention how close their faces were to each other, their faces were practically almost touching.
Clearing her throat, Natasha moved away from Wanda and concluded, "And that's it, now you can just pet the corgi and the other dogs once you're done with it,"
"Yea, right.."
It was a feeling of longing Wanda had never quite felt before. Longing for Natasha's soft hands to caress her arms again, even if it were by accident. Her heart was racing but in a good way and she felt her body temperature rising but for some particular reason, she never wanted it to end.
"Finally finished cuddling your girlfriend?" Yelena taunted Natasha in the kitchen as Natasha dashed in, face red and heart pounding.
"What girlfriend? You mean Wanda? No- I mean- Wanda's not my girlfriend." Natasha finished with a sort of finality.
"Say what you want but only lovers have that kind of tension between them," Yelena called breezily as she went to the counter to serve incoming customers.
Now that there were more people in the cafe, Wanda then started to notice how bright the sun was outside and glanced at her watch. It was 7:39 am. Wanda had exactly 21 minutes to get to class before she would be marked late or absent. Setting down the corgi, Wanda stood up to leave but was interrupted by a hand on her shoulder. It was Natasha.
"Leaving already?"
"Yeah, want to get to class early for once."
"Alright then, well um.. I just wanted to tell you that I hope things won't be awkward between us after what happened just now.."
"Oh yea, no worries it's fine," Wanda reassured Natasha, not wanting to make her feel bad. But to also make sure that she could still come back whenever she wanted to.
"Well, see you later?" Natasha asked with a slightly hopeful tone.
"You bet." Wanda smirked slightly and winked.
Walking towards the campus, Wanda pondered about their interaction earlier on as it was no joke to say that that was the only things on her mind then.
Recalling the way Natasha's hands caressed her arms not too roughly nor too softly made Wanda's heart skip a beat.
It may not have been much to other people but to Wanda who had not had any human touch in nearly a month, it was progress.
