(14) Christmas Blues

Three months later,

It was Christmas day, all of the families had spent most of the day with their loved ones. Now it was time to get to the Barnes/Martin Christmas dinner. 

Winnie and Kelly Jo were stepsisters, and their dad and mom families always celebrated with their husbands families. Kelly Jo and Micah came in at James sr house. They greeted everyone, when they got to Bucky. 

"Kelly Jo Micah you all remember Serena I think you met her breifly at Labor day." Bucky said 

"Yes but then we had to leave due to a emergency at the hospital." Kelly Jo said 

"Where's Lexie? The rest of your kids are here." He said 

"Oh she's coming. She wanted to drive herself." Micah said 

"Oh." He said 

Everyone began to mingle, and snack on the appetizers. Lexie was in her car singing along to her music, the song that was playing "Dynasty" by Miia. 

As she was coming up the long drive way, she was blaring "Don't Make Her Look Dumb" by Maddie and Tae. 

"There's Lexie." Micah said 

"Finally, you all should of told her to be here on time." Margaret Martin said 

"Sorry mom." Micah said 

Lexie walked into the kitchen, "Merry Christmas." She said 

"About time you got here." Frances said 

"Sorry granny." She said 

Bucky walked into the kitchen when he heard the commotion. "Hey Lexie.." he said with Serena right behind him. 

She swallowed hard, then turned her attention to her grandparents again. "It smells delicious." She said 

"We will eat soon, James Sr is about to carve the ham." Vivian said 

"Okay." She said 

Lexie poured herself some virgin eggnog, then she left the kitchen. Bucky found her a few minutes later admiring Eugenie and James Sr's Christmas tree. 

"Lexie.." he said 

She looked down, "Leave me alone." She said softly. 

"Lexie are you okay?" He said 

She turned around, "I said to leave me alone." She said and walked out. 

He looked down as he closed eyes. Eugenie yelled that it was time to eat, so everyone joined the dining room. Half way through the meal, James Sr said "Girls how is school going so far?" 

"Great for me papa. Only bad part is that I never see Lexie there." Lindsey said 

"What do you mean? You two attend the same school." Vivian said 

"Actually mom they don't Micah gave in to Lexie's request to attend public school." Kelly Jo said 

Bucky got choked on his bite of mashed potatoes, and looked at Lexie once he got a drink. 

"School is going great thanks for asking." Lexie said 

Kelly Jo, decided to change the subject "So Serena since I really didn't get a chance to talk to you at Labor Day, how did you and Buchanan meet?" Kelly Jo said 

"At Harvard orientation." Bucky said

"It wasn't just that, we met a week before classes at freshmen orientation. He helped me find my advisor which is also his. He helped me with my books at the bookstore, and move into my dorm. He was a real sweetheart to me for helping like he did." Serena said 

Lexie looked down, "Mom..I don't feel so good I think Im gonna go." She said 

"Honey you have barely touched your food. And we still have presents to open." Kelly Jo said 

"Mom please.." she said as she got up. 

She took her plate to the kitchen, Bucky made it seem like he was going to get a drink. 

"Lexie.." he said as he went to grab her wrist. 

"Don't touch me. Just pretend like the summer never existed.." she said in a low tone. 

"Lexie I told you not to punish my sister just because you are mad at me." He said lowly.

"Just shut up and leave me alone. I hate you." She said lowly and walked out. 

She told everyone goodbye, when she got out to her car she turned up "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift and drove off. A little bit later, James found Bucky sitting alone in the basement..

"Son I'm gonna ask you something and I want you to be honest." James said as he sat beside him. 

"Okay.." he said 

"Did something happen between you and Lexie to cause her to pull herself away from Lindsey or to be upset that you are with Serena?" James said 

"No..we were just friends." He said 

"You didn't lead her to believe that it could be more than that?" James said 

"No dad I didn't." He said 

"Ok that better be the truth." James said as he got up and left him there. 

Bucky let out a sigh of relief before joining the family for presents.
