Chapter 9

I got to work and went to my office and put my purse in my drawer and turned my computer on to check emails and answer the ones necessary and the other I will leave until later.  Ugh, the first email I open is from the head nurse manager calling a meeting at 9:00 this morning.

I swear this chick always want to meet, I get so tired of hearing her yap on about nothing most of the time.  Well I guess I just have to grin and bear it. Hmmm, is this really how my Monday morning going to start?

I opened the door and walked out and went down to the ER to start my day.  I looked at the scene before me. 

“Oh shit, how bad has it been last night?  It looks a mess in here.”

I jumped on in and started working.  Kiki walked up to me and gave me a hug and said good morning boss.  She had the biggest grin on her face, and I just had to ask her what she was so happy about.

“Well good morning Ms. Kiki, and how are you?”

“I’m doing well, what about you?” “Did you have a good weekend?”

“Sure did, it was relaxing and stress free.” 

“Great, glad to hear that.”

“So what has you so giddy this morning?” 

“Well, I came in this morning and started working and did the vitals, got the patient changed, took their blood pressure, and drew their blood; all before Dr. Taricone came in the room to talk to the patient.”

“Very nice…so that’s why you’re so happy?”

“Yes, and the fact that after my third patient and having everything done before the doctor walked in he stopped me in the hallway and told me I had done a good job.  I was so excited; I just could not believe he actually gave me a compliment especially after my first day he wanted to fire me.”

“Well I am so proud of you; you didn’t let the big bad wolf run you away. You took my advice and ran with it.  Well you better get back to work before the big bad wolf starts howling.”

I chuckled and walked back to the desk and checked on the other nurses and see how they were fairing this morning. 

“Good morning Darlene, morning Rachel, I didn’t forget about you Ms. Lillie.”

They all chimed in with a cheery good morning.  I smiled at them all and picked up the next chart and went in to see the next patient.  After I finished his vitals, getting his history, putting him on the heart monitor and drawing blood; I moved on to the next one.

I stopped to think; huh I haven’t seen Dr. Taricone this morning.  Wait what I am thinking about Dr. Taricone.  I pushed the thought out my head, and continued on with the rest of my patients.

I walked down the hall humming; put a ring on it by Beyoncé.  I laughed to myself, why do I want anyone to put a ring on my finger?  I absolutely ok just as I am.  I just shook my head and continued on.  Before I walked into the next room, my phone rang. 

“Hello?”

“Hey babes how are you this morning?”

I quickly gained my composure and tried to sound happy to talk to Kevin.

“Hey sweetie; I am doing well thanks.”

“How are you?”

I wondered what was going on, Kevin never calls me early in the morning; usually it’s around lunch time.  I was curious why he called now.
