Prologue
"Speak Volumes of Integrity"
YOUR POV
The loud sound of car horns and rolling tires parade outside of the graduation hall. Police and families are line up all outside the doors, catching up with their graduates. My eyes searched the crowd, finding my mom, dad and my little sister.
"Cassie!" mom says.
I run through the crowd, my arms finding their way around my mom. Her squeeze almost suffocates me. Feeling a soft warm hand on my shoulder, I look up and see a man in a police uniform.
"Daddy!" I smiled.
Without warning, I jumped onto my dad (attempted) and hug him tightly, earning a laugh out from him. The smell of his cologne tickles my nose, making me pull from him.
"Congrats kiddo, you keeping our blood running in this family. You are going to make us all proud."
I smile, feeling a small pull on my legs.
"Sierra!" I said excitedly.
"Sissy!" she exclaims.
I pick her up, returning her hug. If there is one thing you should know about me, my family means the world to me. When I told my dad that I wanted to become a police officer, he was so happy to know that this was going to be my career. My mom on the other hand, she wasn't too happy about my choice. However, she came around it, fully on my team. I just hope maybe someday Sierra will do the same, and keep our family tradition moving smoothly.
I stood in between my dad and my mom, holding a most anxious Sierra. Then I see a hulking figure come barreling towards us.
"Jeremy!" I squeaked.
"Babygirl!" he laughs.
Scooping me and my little sister in a huge hug, I lock eyes with him; his hand softly crushing my police cap down onto my long black hair.
"You are going to do amazing baby, I'm glad I joined you in this." he smiled.
Jeremy has been my boyfriend for almost 4 years. We met when I was 18, right out of high school. Now I am 22, just this year he had just turned 38 in August. I know, large age difference. But love is all that matters, and of course with the law too.
Just then, the New York Police Commissioner comes walking down towards us, a subtle look on his face. My dad wraps an arm around me, beaming at the commissioner. He holds his hand out, shaking my dad's.
"You got a strong daughter, Mr. Scott."
He smiled as he looked down at me, pulling my shoulders in on a hug.
"Thank you, she definitely is." he said cheerily.
The commissioner then turns to Jeremy, nodding.
"You too young man." he says.
Jeremy nods.
