Hunters, Werewolves, & Legacies, Part 2
Ash let out a small gasp as he came to, his body tensing as adrenaline raced through his veins. He immediately regretted that reaction, letting out a small groan as his body reminded him of the various injuries he had received after getting aggressively knocked off his bike. The pounding of his head did not help matters, nor did it help him in figuring out where he was, or rather, wherever it was that Derek Hale had taken him.
"What did you do to him?!" Ash recognized Scott's voice, although he sounded more angry than worried.
"He's fine," the slightly deeper voice of Derek Hale responded.
Ash exhaled heavily, barely managing to think through the slowly clearing haze of pain, as he tried to remember how exactly he had ended up in this situation in the first place. The smell of dirt, and the sight of tall tree trunks rising above told him he was most likely somewhere in the Preserve.
"What did you do to him?" Scott repeated with a growl, drawing Ash's attention back to the conversation going on just a few feet from where he was laying.
Derek sighed in annoyance. "Nothing. He ran into my car."
As soon as Derek had finished speaking, everything came flooding back, and Ash let out one of his dad's favorite curses. "Styx!" He managed to sit up, his eyes adjusting to the darkness around him enough to see Scott and Derek Hale standing just a few feet in front of him.
Completely ignoring the young sophomore, who wasn't wearing a shirt for some reason, Ash fixed his heated gaze onto Derek Hale. "First of all, I didn't run into your car! You parked your car across the road and blinded me! Second of all, you better not have left my bike sitting in the middle of the road! Do you have any idea how much trouble I'll be in?!"
Derek simply rolled his eyes. "Not my problem. You should be grateful I didn't do worse."
That seemed to be the last straw for Scott, as he launched himself at Derek and they went tumbling down a couple yards away from Ash. Ash rolled his neck before he pushed himself up onto his feet, wincing from the sharp pain in his right arm, and the twinge of agony that shot up his right leg as he put pressure on it.
He made his way over to where Scott was pinned up against a tree by Derek. Ash leaned heavily against the tree, about to say something, when he noticed how tense and still Derek had gotten.
"Shh... Quiet." Derek went quiet, as if listening to something, before turning back to Scott with a tinge of regret in his eyes. "Too late. They're already here. Run."
Derek let Scott go and then ran off, disappearing into the shadows of the trees around them. Scott got up, grabbed Ash and pulled him with him as they trudged away from where Derek had left them, Ash inhaling sharply every time his leg got jostled. They had only gotten a few feet from the tree that they had been at when an arrow sailed over them, hitting the tree just in front of them. It exploded in a flash of bright light, temporarily blinding Ash and disorienting Scott, who let go of Ash as he tried to cover his eyes. Ash stumbled and fell, crying out as most of his weight was put onto his already injured right arm. Scott's cry followed shortly after, causing Ash to look up and find that Scott's arm was pinned to the tree by what looked like an arrow.
By the gods and goddesses above! Not again! Ash thought as he suddenly realized what was going on, and why Derek had been so desperate to take Allison home.
Ash pushed himself up, deciding to deal with his sudden revelation later, grimacing in pain as he walked over to Scott, and gripped the arrow with his left hand. "I need to pull this out."
Scott didn't respond, his gaze fixed on something, or someone, behind Ash. Ash turned to see what had caught Scott's attention. He was looking at the three figures that had appeared from behind some trees a few yards back. Ash turned back to face Scott, cursing as he realized just how serious this was. It had been years since Ash had last seen men like them, years since Ash had met a Hunter.
